Seattle Weaver's Guild Show and Sale
St. Mark's Cathedral
October 23-25
Last year, and for the last several years, making a visit to the North end of Broadway to attend the annual Weaver's Guild Show and Sale has been the one constant through good and difficult times. The blue hat I got last year to match my first ever full-length coat since childhood cheered me up and got me lots and lots of compliments and I'll hope to find something similar - maybe one to replace that one, since that hat was lost during a movie outing - this year.
And if you're new to the bonanza that is this sale of artisan knitwear, then you owe yourself the treat of going this year. There's always something new, and lots of original items for now and later, when the weather turns really bitter. Also, you can be sure none of these items is helping keep a sweatshop alive in some third-world country and even talk to some of the artists who made the pair of gloves, hat, or scarf you might be purchasing for yourself or a loved one. There are also ornaments, cards and bookmarks as well, and, trust me, with so much not going right in the world, this sale is a little island of cheer - at least it always has been for me. Hours are from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday. This is an adventure you won't regret, believe me.
