CHILDHOOD FEARS

When I was a small child my late mother instilled in me a fear of some spooky character called the BOOGIE MAN. If I did anything wrong or unacceptable, I knew within a short time this fellow would appear as a punishment for anything I had done.

In later years I discovered the notorious BOOGIE MAN didn't exist I made a concentrated effort to share him with other people of my age. Most of them thought the character was funny and nothing to be scared about.

When I saw my sister using the fear tactic and didn't hesitate to tell her some of the emotional parameters associated with the word. She listened carefully and changes her tactics. Even today when I hear the words I wonder what I had done wrong bringing back many childhood memories. At this point I hope the BOOGIE MAN is gone forever.
