Now that the first of the big holidays is over, you're undoubtedly looking for something to occupy your time besides worrying about the economy and how you're going to pull off a great Christmas/Solstice/Kwanzaa or pagan feast day. Well, do keep December 5 in mind for a special event at Langston Hughes, put on by Ladies First, the monthly hip-hop/spoken word event put on every first Saturday of the month by CARA (Communities Against Rape and Abuse) at Hidmo (20th and Jackson). Tickets are available through brownapertickets.org. And do come and join the growing audience that shows up monthly for Ladies First on December 6, at 8 p.m. at Hidmo. There are local writers and musicians and Hidmo's delicious Ertitrean cuisine, as well a chance to pick up a worthwhile gift of one of CARA's new T-shirts for yourself or for someone on your gift list. And of course you'll want to check out the annual "Cupcake Party," another CARA event, this time at the CARA office (801 23rd Avenue S., Suite G-1) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sweet cakes and karaoke too, and lots of female bonding with some great women.
Finally, another date to keep on your calendar, December 17, when Three Dollar Bill Cinema sponsors a showing of an all-time Queer favorite, Auntie Mame, the Rosalind Russell classic. Two screenings at Central Cinema (21st and Union), 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Buy some popcorn, bring your friends, and have some fun with your Queer family.
