LIFELONG AIDS ALLIANCE CARE TO SHOP FOOD DRIVE
Chicken Soup Brigade, Lifelong AIDS Alliance's food program, sponsors an on-going food drive program to provide bags of groceries to people living with HIV/AIDS in Seattle/King County. "Care to Shop" is held between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the following stores:

The first Saturday of the month at QFC, 416 15th Ave. E., Seattle; the second Saturday of the month at QFC, 417 Broadway E. (Broadway Market), Seattle; and the third Saturday of the month at Thriftway, 9740 SW Bank Rd., Vashon Island.

They particularly need: cereal, canned tuna, canned meals (soup, stew, etc.), juice, canned beans, peanut butter, jam/jelly, canned fruits and vegetables, macaroni & cheese, dry pasta, canned or jarred spaghetti sauce. Store gift cards and cash donations are also always appreciated. You can also help by organizing your own food drive at an office gathering or holiday party. For more information, call 206-328-8979.

SEATTLE TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONWIDE DOMA PROTEST; PROTESTS ALSO SCHEDULED IN TACOMA, OLYMPIA & SPOKANE
On Saturday, January 10, Seattle will participate in a nationwide protest against DOMA, the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. DOMA prohibits federal recognition of same-sex marriages even if they are legal in the states where they take place and allows individual states to refuse to recognize legal same-sex marriages performed in other states. In Seattle, organizers plan for a noon - 2 p.m. rally at Westlake Park, 4th Ave. & Pine St. An auxilliary event will meet at Seattle Central Community College Plaza on Broadway just north of E. Pine St. at 10:30 a.m. and will join the rally at Westlake Park at noon.

In Tacoma, demonstrators will gather at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 621 Tacoma Ave. S., for a rally and march to Tacoma's City Building. In Olympia, demonstrators will also meet at their City Hall at 10:30 a.m. Spokane organizers plan a rally at City Hall at 10:30 a.m. Details for these actions and others nationwide are available at the website www.jointheimpact.com.

SEATTLE CITY COUNCIL TO ANNOUNCE ITS 2009 PRIORITIES
Each year, the Council establishes and communicates to the public major themes and priorities to guide its legislative work. Council Members will present key areas of focus and major legislative initiatives, with public comment to follow. The Full Council meeting will be held on Monday, January 12, at 2 p.m.; public comment will begin at approximately 2:30 p.m. The Council is announcing its priorities as early as possible to give citizens every opportunity to hear and provide comment on the Council's legislative direction.

BISHOP GENE ROBINSON, FIRST GAY ANGLICAN BISHOP, TO VISIT SEATTLE
The Rt. Rev. Gene Robinson, Episcopal bishop of New Hampshire and the first openly Gay bishop in the Anglican Communion, will visit Seattle on Monday and Tuesday, January 12 and 13. COUNTRY DOCTOR COMMUNITY HEALTH CLINIC OFFERS HEALTH CARE NIGHT FOR LGBTQ COMMUNITY

Q-SQUARED BOOK GROUP TO DISCUSS HARVEY MILK BIO
On Saturday, January 17, at 1 p.m., at the Capitol Hill Branch Library, 425 Harvard Ave. E., the Q-Squared Book Group will discuss The Mayor of Castro Street: The Life and Times of Harvey Milk by Randy Shilts. The group will be comparing and contrasting the book with Gus Van Sant's recent movie, Milk. The book's recounting of the 1978 Proposition 6 campaign in California is especially timely in light of 2008's Proposition 8. COURT OF SEATTLE'S CORONATION COMING UP
The Imperial Sovereign Court of Seattle and the Olympic & Rainier Empire presents Coronation 2009 - "The President's Ball: A Red Affair" - on Saturday, February 14 (5 p.m.), at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel, 2100 Alaskan Way. The Court of Seattle is once again proud to host the Queen Mother of the Americas, Empress Nicole the Great, as she presents her State of the Empire address to the International Court community in Seattle. We are also honored that she and the International Court Council will present the 2009 Ascension Ceremony, with the appointment of Heirs Apparent to Her Majesty.

BAILEY-BOUSHAY HOUSE HOSTS ANNUAL CHEF'S DINNER
Too many cooks in the kitchen will be a good thing on Sunday, January 18, 2008, as more than a dozen of Seattle's best and brightest chefs unite for the 16th annual Chefs' Dinner to benefit Seattle's Bailey-Boushay House, a skilled nursing facility for people living with HIV/AIDS and other complex, life-threatening diseases. Guests will enjoy the best Seattle chefs have to offer at the hors d'oeuvres reception and silent wine auction. An exclusive multi-course dinner featuring entrées by leading culinarians will follow the reception.

Bell Harbor International Conference Center, 2211 Alaskan Way, Pier 66, hosts the event. Reception and silent wine auction at 5 p.m.; dinner at 7 p.m. Organizers hope to raise $200,000 to directly support the nutrition program at Bailey-Boushay House.

Bailey-Boushay House, opened in 1992, is America's first skilled nursing facility that was planned, funded, built and staffed to meet the needs of people living with AIDS. The nationally-recognized facility provides care for people living with HIV/AIDS and other complex, life-threatening diseases promoting their health, well-being and functional independence. Bailey-Boushay is operated by Virginia Mason Medical Center.

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY CELEBRATIONS IN SEATTLE
On Monday, January 19, celebrate MLK Jr. Day in Seattle at one of the following events:

City Year and over 600 community members will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with community service projects: including painting, landscaping, a community mural project, cleaning, organizing and sorting. EarthCorps will again participate in a nationwide "Day of Service" in honor of Dr. King as it leads over 300 youth and adult community volunteers at a natural area on Beacon Hill known as Cheasty Greenspace. The service project includes the removal of English ivy, a non-native aggressive plant species that threatens the diversity of our urban forests and perhaps other landscaping work. The event is scheduled from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Martin Luther King Celebration Committee will host their 27th annual region-wide MLK, Jr. Celebration at Garfield High School, 400 23rd Ave., with workshops, 9:30-11 a.m., rally at 11 a.m., and a march starting at noon from Garfield High School to the Federal Building, 915 2nd Ave. Immediately after the march, food and refreshments will be served at Garfield High School's lunch room, free to all participants. www.mlkseattle.org.

The Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas and the Seattle Center present a staged reading of excerpts of Martin Luther King Jr.'s speeches at 2:30 p.m., in the Seattle Center Center House Pavilion. From "I Have a Dream" to "Beyond Vietnam," Martin Luther King Jr.'s words are revolutionary in the face of opposition. Dr. King's speeches are powerful, inspiring and controversial and spanned issues from civil and global human rights to nuclear proliferation. www.cdforum.org.

GAY/BI PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP STARTING IN JANUARY
A free support group for Gay/Bi men diagnosed with prostate cancer will kick off on Monday, January 19, 6:30-8 p.m., at Gilda's Club Seattle, 1400 Broadway and will meet the third Tuesday of each month. During the month of December, glbtq.com, the world's largest encyclopedia of GLBTQ culture, is celebrating contemporary art by Queer women with an online exhibition entitled "Pink and Bent: Art of Queer Women." glbtq.com's online presentation features the work of 24 artists, each of whom is profiled on the site. The exhibition will be featured on glbtq.com's home page throughout December and will remain available on the website indefinitely.

SOLDIERS PROJECT NW OFFERS FREE COUNSELING FOR VETS/ACTIVE MILITARY & THEIR LOVES ONES
Soldiers Project NW is a 100% volunteer organization whose purpose is to provide free counseling to those who have served or are serving in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and to their families and loved ones, including LGBT active military/veterans and their loved ones. Many people choose to receive help directly from the military or the VA. Soldiers Project NW offers an alternative for those who, for whatever reason, do not or cannot utilize those benefits. Soldiers Project NW has put together a list of licensed private practice therapists from Olympia to Bellingham who are willing to see one client (or couple, or family) at no charge, for as long as they need to be seen to deal with any of the stressors that have come from being involved in combat or loving someone who has. CALL FOR PROPOSALS ON LESBIAN HEALTH TOPICS
The Lesbian Health & Research Center at University of California, San Francisco, seeks workshops and presentations on Lesbian, Bisexual and Queer women's health topics to be presented at the 2009 National Lesbian Health Summit to be held on March 6-8, 2009, in San Francisco.

The Lesbian Health & Research Center (LHRC) is dedicated to improving the health of Lesbians, Bisexual women, Transgender people, and our families. To achieve this goal, they create comprehensive programs of research, education and trainings, public events and community collaborations.
