Rustycon 2009, "army sweetie" goes AWOL
by Rajkhet Dirzhud-Rashid - SGN A&E Writer

Ah, an interesting time it's been, my babies. Since Christmas Eve, we have not had word from "army sweetie," the love of my life, who seems determined to keep me without a smile on my face (or in my heart), and this one is a shell of her happy self. Still, there are ups, even in this dire situation, as this one has added a new play partner to my harem, as of New Year's Eve (which literally started with a bang at this one's fave place, a certain "Spot").

And memories of that night's debauching (including some self-satisfaction for the enjoyment of a very grateful audience) and the rousing "bell ringing" that came later, linger in the mind still. Looking forward to that one celebrating with me again on my birthday weekend (it's my birthday, it's my birthday & well, it will be on the 26th, dahlings).

Oh, and this one did have more snow woes on the way to the Fabulous Daughter's to gift my ex and the Fabulous Daughter's beau two weekends ago. Still, even though I was stuck for four boring hours on a Metro bus that got stuck in slushy snow, the drivers of both buses - mine and the one that caused us to be stuck in the first place - were both so very nice that it wasn't too awful. One even shared his cheese sandwich and showed me pix of his very pretty girlfriend. Dude, have fun in England, and my hat's off to you and your compadre, who turned an awful experience into a tolerable one, and to the #11 driver who got me home. She and the two of you are more heroes from the storms.

And my heart goes out to those who have suffered such loss in the recent floods. Send prayers, send money to the Red Cross, go and volunteer to help them clean up the mess if you can get there. We are all of our brother's and sister's keepers, so let's help.

On that note, to Mr. "I have no life, so I want to end other lives," get a clue, and stop the madness. We are a strong and beautiful community and we will survive your lame-ass threat, and may the gods and goddesses out you so you can be put behind bars and live within the walls of your sick mind 'til you're too old to do anything but gum potatoes. 'Nuff said.

So, what has this one been doing besides missing "army sweetie," knocking boots at The Spot with new play partners (trying to ignore the many haters out there, including some new "soap opera vixens"), and making my way through treacherous weather situations? Well, this one did attend this year's Rustycon with the Fabulous Daughter and her beau, and had a danged good time meeting and greeting friends, old and new. Also picked up a new blade at the dealer's room, and some very cool earrings and a new bracelet in one very sweet twofer deal. And of course this one shook her booty at some room parties, and even met perhaps a new member of this one's harem. We'll see if that one answers the e-mail I sent and what happens after that. Can't wait 'til Norwescon to see more of these folk, buy some more fun stuff, and party at more room parties, and oh, the steampunk panel and vampire panel this one attended rocked (the Fabulous Daughter said she found the steampunk one enlightening, and though this year's con was less than exciting to her, she'd definitely come back next year). Go to the Norwescon website for more info on memberships and location, and come join the fun this spring.

And, of course, this one has delish things to tell you about that I've tried and loved, like the amazing (and not so pricey) vitamin E oil I got from Trader Joe's that's keeping my skin touchable and soft during this harsh Northwest winter. Also adoring the two eye crayons by Jane (in Dreamworld and Stormy) I picked up at Bartels recently. The Dreamworld one is my new "go-to" stick for everywhere to look tasty and enticing the "Stormy" is a smoky grey/green that makes my eyes look so sexy - my little after-Christmas gift to myself. And them being so inexpensive didn't hurt either, since the after holiday cash flow is less than of the millionaire caliber.

So, that's it for now, my sweet apples, and remember, a community that loves and shares and keeps an eye out for each other is stronger than one that tears each other down and isolates from each other, seeking unreachable, stereotypical "icons" instead of real people.

We are only as strong as our respect for ourselves and each other, and we are valuable and here for a reason, so let's not let fear from without our community destroy us, or keep us from being the truly wonderful people we all are. Reach out to a stranger and embrace someone different than yourself, and be kind to our planet and she'll stop doing things to make us wake the hell up. And congrats in advance to our new prez, you go, baby, and don't forget who put you there, eh? Buhbye!
