The Atomic Bombshells' J'Adore!
February 12
The Triple Door

Recently returned from winter tours of Portugal and China, The Atomic Bombshells showed Seattle their love last week with their newest extravaganza, a red-hot Burlesque Valentine titled J'Adore! The seven lovely ladies (along with boylesque/drag sensation Ben DeLaCreme) dazzled with a special emphasis on all things amorous.

The Atomic Bombshells won't remain Seattle's most glamorous secret for long. Although they've performed in various local venues for years, the current core members and cast of frequent guests have been steadily gaining national attention since their Nutcracker-themed holiday show became an annual tradition at The Triple Door in 2006. J'Adore! proved to be their most spectacular performance yet, offering the very best of Seattle's burlesque A-list, giving their all one number at a time.

The evening consisted of no less than 13 full-scale performances, with talented host Jasper McCann engaging the audience in between with his usual charms. This show focused entirely on burlesque; there were no other types of performers or acrobatics this time around. Opening dance "The Jazz Funeral" was a New Orleans-style kickoff some might recall from last spring's revue. Lily Vanderloo enchanted with her signature en pointe "Avian" routine.

The newly featured performance, also titled "J'Adore," starred Honey Deluxe dressed in what appeared to be a bizarrely constructed covering of pink balloons. All that was visible was her tiny, beaming face and two gorgeous legs protruding from beneath the unwieldy pink contraption. Flanked by Ben DeLaCreme and Fanny In Flames as cheeky cupids, the pair trailed Honey around the stage until they finally unleashed a torrent of pinpricks on her covering of balloons. The dress then somehow flipped inside out to become an elegant, sparking gown with a shining heart emblazoned on the front. This costume has to be seen to be believed; with any luck, the girls will bring it back for a future show.

Another noteworthy routine was Miss Indigo Blue's playfully suggestive tribute to Italian café dining and biscotti. It was hysterical to watch a girl strip down to her skivvies while chomping lasciviously on cookie after cookie. If anyone can make binging on a naughty dessert look sexy, it's Indigo. The second half of the show was equally well paced. All of the costumes were remarkable; the classic choreography sheer perfection. Statuesque redhead Fanny In Flames broke out her "Lion Tamer" routine in a pair of impossibly high heels while brandishing an impressive whip.

Drag sensation and boylesque performer Ben DeLaCreme nearly stole the show with his remarkable take on "Sugartown." Wearing heels and a dress made mostly of an oversized box of chocolates, the enchanting Ben began to gobble up chocolates faster and faster while the music sped up, evoking a sugar high and then slowing into an exaggerated sugar crash. Reminiscent of the now-defunct drag night Faux Bang, it was refreshing to feel the night get a little bit twisted for a moment. A little background digging on this sensational starlet found that Ben has been performing in various nightclubs coast to coast since 2002, but he "presently kicks up his/her lucite heels in Seattle." Thank our lucky stars for that. He's amazing.

Although various Bombshells will be performing around Seattle this spring and summer, the super-troupe itself will be taking a much-needed break for the moment. You can bet they'll return with something thrillingly ambitious. J'Adore! served up back-to-back humor, glamour, and a healthy dose of skin. It was an extraordinary evening of vintage bump and grind, packing a wallop and stealing the hearts of everyone in attendance.
