GLAAD Announces Search for Organization's Next President; Launches National Effort to Find Top Executive

Los Angeles, CA, March 13, 2009 - The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) announced today that it has launched a nation-wide search for its next president and has retained the search firm of Isaacson, Miller to assist in recruiting an exceptional executive to lead the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization.

"We are seeking an extraordinary, talented individual to lead GLAAD in advancing its mission to promote and ensure fair, accurate and inclusive representation of LGBT people in the media," said Dean Hansell, a member of GLAAD's Board of Directors and Chair of its Search Committee. "We invite and strongly encourage applications, nominations and inquiries from the widest possible and most diverse pool of candidates."

Founded in 1985 with offices in New York and Los Angeles, GLAAD engages in a mix of media advocacy, education, visibility and media monitoring activities, all directed to eliminate homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. GLAAD also conducts mobilization campaigns and calls to action against defamation in the media in addition to providing media training and communications support to local, regional, statewide and other LGBT advocacy organizations. Each year GLAAD presents the GLAAD Media Awards, which recognize and honor outstanding representations of the LGBT community in news and entertainment media.

For the past three and one-half years, GLAAD has been skillfully headed by Neil Giuliano, who recently announced his intended departure as president. During Giuliano's tenure, GLAAD expanded its influence as a national voice against anti-LGBT defamation and began media programs to advocate for images of the LGBT community in young adult, digital and online, religion and faith, and sports media.

"As we approach our 25th anniversary year, the next president will work with the Board of Directors to execute a new strategic plan for the organization that will build on the outstanding achievements of the past and will take GLAAD and the LGBT community to new heights, as we continue to shatter the stereotypes and change hearts and minds," Hansell noted.

"We are very happy to help GLAAD find an exceptional and energetic new leader," said Tim McFeeley, who will lead the Isaacson, Miller team. "GLAAD provides incredible resources, programs and a national platform for leadership in the LGBT advocacy, media and anti-defamation communities, and we expect this search will attract top talent from many diverse sectors of American society."
