Seattle gives much-needed funds to Chicken Soup Brigade |

If you are a Seattle resident and are homebound due to HIV/AIDS, your time on the Chicken Soup Brigade (CSB) waitlist just got a little shorter. According to a press release issued last week by Lifelong AIDS Alliance (LLAA), the CSB received new funding from the City to the tune of $162,360.
Director of Nutrition Services Patrick Schultz said, 'We are so grateful to have the City's support for our program and are anxious to start providing meals to our clients in need, who have been waiting patiently.'
According to CSB officials, the new funding begins in July. As soon as the contract is in place, Schultz told SGN, the organization will be able to provide meals and/or groceries to approximately 100 more people in Seattle.
'With the additional funds from the City, the program will be able to reach many more people than ever before,' Schultz added.
Last month, SGN ran an exclusive on the need for donations from the community to help LLAA and CSB drastically cut the number of clients on a waitlist to receive services. According to Schultz, the article may have unofficially helped generate some additional funding.
Schultz confirmed that the local HIV/AIDS Planning Council decided to boost funding for groceries, as well.
LLAA is committed to preventing the spread of HIV and to providing practical support services and advocacy for those whose lives are affected by HIV and AIDS. The CSB is the organization's food service, which feeds hundreds of people each week with bags of groceries, fresh meals and soup. These meals are an important part of maintaining the health of people living with HIV/AIDS and other life-challenging illnesses.
CSB and LLAA have many opportunities to volunteer or donate. For more information, you can visit their website at www.LLAA.org.
