Shannel amazes at Le Faux

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Staff Writer

Shannel at Le Faux
August 14-15
Julia's On Broadway

Le Faux at Julia's On Broadway has long been considered Seattle's "Best Female Celebrity Impersonation Show." Starting September 11, the new host will be Shannel, drag sensation direct from Las Vegas and the Logo Channel's hit reality TV series Ru Paul's Drag Race. Le Faux and Julia's owners brought the Vegas sensation for a special two-night performance August 14-15 where Shannel proved why she is in high demand: she's fierce! SGN joined the capacity crowd to view the August 14 show.

As soon as the curtains open and the music begins, you quickly realize you are in for a night of topnotch entertainment. Before the female impersonators catch your attention, the opening number's aerial male acrobat and stage dancers light up the room with an infectious burst of energy.

The first thing you notice when Shannel takes the stage is her killer body, which is her trademark appeal. But for myself and plenty of others in the audience, it was those piercing blue eyes that added to her stage presence. Shannel is also a master of ad-lib; a few minutes into speaking with the audience, she owns the room. There is a fine line between funny and bitchy, and Shannel mixes the two with perfection and wit. As one would expect, the drag projectionist did a costume change for each number and continually won the audience's approval with each new piece, no matter how skimpy or floor-length it may have been. Shannel danced to a few solo numbers and left the audience begging for more. What Shannel did was make us all want to see her again and again, and each time felt like the first time all over again. She is that good.

The cast of female impersonators did an amazing job, as well. Let's be clear: this is no run-of-the-mill drag show. Throughout Friday's show, the audience was treated to a barrage of celebrities: Madonna, Lucille Ball, Britney Spears, and Kyle Minogue, to name a few. But it was the Lady Gaga portion of the show that held the audience in bliss. The illusion was certainly there, as well as the dance routines.

Not only are the dancers extremely sexy, they are talented and know their craft. The choreography was spot-on. The dance team at Le Faux has established themselves as a force to be reckoned with. They change outfits almost as much as the female impersonators do, and they rock the stage every time they appear.

Le Faux has always been good. Well, Seattle, it just got better!

Last weekend's shows were not the first time Seattle audiences were introduced to Shannel. The diva performed at Julia's during Pride weekend to a sold-out audience with a rendition of Medusa, the Wicked Queen from Snow White, and as guest host of Le Faux and at the first Capitol Hill Pride Block Party.

If you missed the August 14-15 shows, don't fret; Shannel makes her move from Las Vegas to Seattle permanent next month. Le Faux is a must-see show with a stellar cast of dancers, acrobats and impersonators. With Shannel at the helm, you can expect a powerful performance time and again. Julia's On Broadway is the perfect venue for the show, with a newly revamped menu at prices that are nice to the wallet and the appetite, you won't walk away disappointed. Additionally, the servers are cute, attentive, and quick.

Tickets for Le Faux are $20, and they now offer VIP tickets for $40, which includes front-row and early seating along with pictures with Shannel after the show.
