Remembering Gary Correy

Gary died last week from complications on complications. Born and raised in Vancouver, WA, he moved to San Francisco, where he had his first job at the iconic Garden Room at the Palace on Market. Then, as steward on the Matson Lines, when Honolulu to San Francisco was really first-class, he met his longtime friends Joe and Joey. Then he was a steward on lots of ships, mostly freighters in the Pacific and in South America.

I met Gary when he started to ship out of Seattle. We were drinking buddies for years. & Sipping under the banyan tree with Lloyd and Monty or on the deck of an RSVP cruise - San Pedro to Mexico, Gary in his striped green Speedo along with Jay - or at the Howbres/Sea Wolf/ CircL/Martins, where he once worked as a bartender. Sometimes harsh, known as Aunt Clara to his friends, we will miss you.

A get-together is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, at 2 p.m. at Martins Off Madison.

Lawrence Grey (Mouser), May 17, 1951 -October 11, 2009

Mouser died of tongue and throat cancer on October 11, 2009 at 10:22 p.m.

Mouser was a wonderful guy. He was the first Transgender person I knew and was much more himself after the transition. He was a member of the Seattle Leather community, an actor, poet, bard of the British Druid Order and the SCA, Tarot reader and a Wiccan priest in multiple traditions. He was a friend to all animals and helped many strays to have a better life. He passed away surrounded by family and friends in Encino, California. They were able to have time for one more game of Yahtzee, and Mouser won. He will be missed.

He is survived by his son and his brother, Doug, and many friends.

A Wiccan memorial service will be held for his communities here in Seattle on Friday, October 23, at the Central Lutheran Church at 8:30 p.m. The address is 11th and E. Olive, at 1710 11th Ave, and an Irish wake afterwards at the Cuff patio at E. Pine and 13th (there will be a $5 cover). Please bring any pictures of Mouser and stories, poems, or songs to share that make you think of Mouser. If you are willing to part with any extra copies of pictures of Mouser, Doug would greatly appreciate receiving them. Food and non-alcoholic refreshments will be provided at the memorial.

Please RSVP to Doug Taylor (e-mail: taylordouglas1@comcast.net) so we can have an idea of how much food to provide.
