Halloween on the Hill

by James Whitely - SGN Contributing Writer

This year, our community's Halloween was one to remember. With parties almost everywhere, queens, freaks, and punks were wandering Broadway until the sun came up.

On Friday, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Abbey of St. Joan put on their annual Halloween party, "Sister Dawwna's Nightmare," at R-Place. Our Sisters, in addition to their usual getup, all dressed in costume, as well. From Victorian dresses to bloody messes, the Sisters did it right - as always. The party, which was for the Sister's grant fund, raised $6,000.

Bump, the benefit party for Gay City, featured a light show as well as a "Kinky Circus," but unfortunately was on the expensive side this year with a $45 ticket price. The party had approximately 800 attendees, and raised $34,000, which will go to benefit the Seattle Men's and Women's Chorus travel fund as well as Gay City.

Caliente and Gallerias on Friday and Saturday, respectively, were total hits. The epicenters of Latino LGBT nightlife on Capitol Hill, these parties were raging all night as the tequila fueled the fire.

On Saturday, the Halloween party at the Cuff had a line extending nearly all the way down the street towards the Elysian, the likes of which I hadn't seen since OZ. The dance floor was packed with colorful and sexy costumes all night.

Hosted by drag sensation Shannel, the Saturday party at Julia's on Broadway had four live bands all playing their sets in costume, as well as a costume party and contest. Shannel was disturbing and theatrically horrifying, and will most likely haunt the dreams of the weaker-willed partygoers until Christmas.

Additional parties were held at Purr Cocktail Lounge, Madison Pub, and Neighbour's Nightclub.
