Deadly Sins steamy dance night = Lust

by James Whitely - SGN Staff Writer

Seven Deadly Sins: Lust January 16 Neumos

On January 16, 'Seven Deadly Sins: Lust' at Neumos was the place to be on Capitol Hill. This steamy dance night - the second in the 'Seven Deadly Sins' dance series - was sexy and stunningly sinful. DJ Ted Eiel, who premiered in Seattle last year during the Northern Xposure weekend-long ship cruise, spun an awesome party.

"Putting a positive spin on sin" is the idea behind the Seven Deadly Sins dance series, which is organized by Two Knights Events. All events in the Seven Deadly Sins series go to benefit local LGBT charities. Two Knights Events is the brainchild of Rich Kaalaas and George Delmar, both experienced party promoters. Kaalaas is also one of the primary promoters of Northern Xposure.

"I have always been intrigued by the seven deadly sins concept and thought that it would make a good experience for Seattle," Delmar told SGN. "But the idea behind all of the sins is that it's kind of tongue-in-cheek - nothing to be taken too seriously." Like the saying goes, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Delmar and Kaalaas came up with the idea for the Seven Deadly Sins series shortly after they became a couple. The first of the series, Greed, also took place at Neumos on October 3, 2009.

"It's funny; we were doing a dance called Greed and we were giving money away," said Kaalaas.

"It's indicative of the tongue-in-cheek approach," added Delmar.

"We wanted something that we could play with visually," Kaalaas and Delmar told SGN. Moneybags were hung from the ceiling and jewels adorned the club as patrons got down on a dance floor literally covered in fake money.

"A funny thing happened at Greed. We had fake money that looked really real in the dark, scattered all over the floor. Someone came up to us and said, 'So, I understand that you guys actually dropped a real $100 bill on the floor.' Apparently someone had started a rumor," Kaalaas laughingly told SGN.

Apparently, someone had taken it upon themselves to drop some money and start the rumor, because as Kaalaas, Delmar and the Neumos staff were cleaning up, a bouncer found a real $20 bill. He kept it for himself.

"There are so many variables and thoughts that go into this type of production. & We wanted to bring a level of production to dance events that people may not have seen before," Delmar told SGN.

"Something unique, entertaining and memorable," added Kaalaas, "something connecting and representative of the whole community. We are trying to approach each and every dance uniquely."

Two Knights Events was recently created by Kaalaas and Delmar. Essentially, their mission (or knightly quest) is to put on social events to raise money for Gay charities. Although both are experienced in their line of work, coming up with a name for their company wasn't easy.

"After we came up with the dance, we needed to make things official with a product company name. We were standing in line for coffee when they asked us for our names."

It was at this point they realized that they shared names with not only two kings, but two knights. "Two Knights Events!" exclaimed Kaalaas.

Along with a powerhouse DJ, Lust featured Colt Studios' Darin Hawk who go-go danced, talked with fans and signed photos all night, and videos produced by Delmar, with Kaalaas' help.

A portion of the proceeds went to Gay City Health Project.

Purr held the official pre-party, the "Purr-fectly Sinful Kickoff Cocktail Party." Purr offered drink specials to Lust ticket holders. The Seattle Eagle held the official afterparty, "From Lust Till Dawn," spun by DJ Funky Bear, which lasted until 5 a.m.

Kaalaas and Delmar plan to hold a "Sin" event about every three months. The next "Sin" will be Vanity, which is scheduled for May 1. "It's kind of episodic and people get really excited & the buzz is definitely out there," said Delmar.
