RuPaul's Drag Race's
'Exceptional Queen'
contest
February 8
The Lobby Bar
Gentlemen, start your engines. It's the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race, and this time, there's a local tie. That's right, Seattle, each and every week until the season ends, The Lobby Bar on Capitol Hill is your official stop to watch Ru tell it like it is as 12 fabulous queens compete to become America's next drag superstar.
Each Monday night, beginning at 8 p.m., Seattle drag sensations Gaysha Starr, Glamazonia, and Lily Armani trade off as hostess. You can expect prize giveaways and drag performances in between each segment of the show, along with the fun of joining the crowd as you root for your favorite drag queen to win. The Lobby Bar, with the help of our local Absolute Vodka rep, has gone all-out for the weekly screening - from RuPaul's Drag Race calendars, T-shirts, and drink specials, The Lobby Bar staff has got you covered.
On February 8, Seattle entered a national contest: the RuPaul's Drag Race "Exceptional Queen" competition. Seven local queens - Patty O'Furniture, Jada Lumpia, Bearded Lady J, Flora Phuket, Sharon Huzbenz, Aunt Flo, and Buttstinker - strutted their stuff from one Lobby staircase to the other, answering questions, showing off their outfits, and performing songs. It was time for them to "lip-sync for your life." Performing songs from Madonna's Open Your Heart to Lady Gaga's Monster (which has recently become a drag queen standard), the queens worked it out! In the end, it was Aunt Flo who got to "shante, you stay" while the other six had to "sashay away."
Aunt Flo advances on to represent Seattle in the nationwide search for an exceptional queen.
Beyond the hubbub of the lashes and lace, there's no denying that RuPaul's Drag Race is an entertaining show. It's a triple threat: Ru Paul (love her!), a reality TV show where the guests are put through some very funny and often obscure tasks in order to win (didn't you just love the RuPaul Barbie makeover?), and it is Gay to the max (hello! Did somebody say drag queen?). Watching the show with like-minded queens is a downright blast.
