The 8th Annual Bowled and
the Beautiful Bowl-A-Thon
February 20
West Seattle Bowl
On February 20, The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Seattle held their 8th Annual Bowled and the Beautiful Bowl-A-Thon at West Seattle Bowl (4505 39th Ave SW). The event is HRC Seattle's second-largest fundraising event and was a complete success - HRC Seattle officials told SGN that nearly 400 people attended the Bowled and the Beautiful.
"Bowled and the Beautiful is a fundraising event where folks in the community come together and support HRC and the work that we do," HRC Seattle's Kevin Moser told SGN. "It's a great way to network while kicking back and having a great time!"
For $35, guests enjoyed two hours of bowling, pizza, soda, and a one-year membership to HRC. The Bowl-A-Thon was set for three sessions, with six people per lane. The first session was geared towards families, the second towards everyone, and the last session was for the party crowd. According to HRC Seattle officials, the event was sold out.
"Events like Bowled and the Beautiful are important because it affords us the opportunity to educate the public about the issues facing the LGBT community," Moser told SGN.
According to Moser, HRC Seattle's political team, lead by Steve Gibbs and Scott Martin, had attendees fill out cards asking their political leaders to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act, pass a Trans-inclusive Employment Non Discrimination Act, and repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
Moser says HRC Seattle steering committee and board members will take the cards to Washington, D.C. when they attend the organization's annual lobby day and spring convention.
The successful fundraiser and community event was organized by HRC Seattle Membership and Community Event co-chairs Josh Nelson, Ken Krupp, and Corinnalyn Guyette, as well as HRC board member Chris Boone. Bowled and the Beautiful was sponsored by Baltic Room, Red Dress Party, Starbucks, Bank of America, Queen Anne & Magnolia Paint and Interiors, Swank, Volunteer Park Café, Argosy University Seattle, Healeo, Now and Zen Spa, One Degree Events, Purr Cocktail Lounge, and Table 219.
The next major HRC Seattle event - and the organization's biggest fundraiser - will be the 11th Annual Pacific Northwest HRC Dinner on September 25.
