Kenyan Gay activist targeted by U.S. Christian-right
by Mike Andrew - SGN Staff Writer

David Kuria Mbote, director of the Gay and Lesbian Coalition of Kenya (GALCK), has been threatened with murder in posters produced by ProjectSEE.com, a U.S.-based Christian-right organization.

Posters with Kuria's photo, e-mail address, and phone number have appeared in the Kenyan cities of Eldoret, Nakuru, Nairobi, Mombassa, and Matatus.

The posters are titled "Not Wanted" and include a Bible verse in Swahili, a common language in Kenya. The posters include the logo of ProjectSEE.com.

The GayUganda blog translates the text:

"If a man sleeps with another man like he sleeps with a woman, both men have done something extremely bad. It is a must for them to be killed, and their blood shall be on their own heads."

An "American in Kenya" posting on the GayUganda blog saw the posters as an incitement to violence.

"Encouraging these postings in a place like Kenya presents a very real and potentially harmful threat to their targets," he wrote. "An Anonymous Friend" on GayUganda agrees, "It arguably incites to murder David Kuria Mbote."

ProjectSee.com is based in Kansas City, Missouri. On their website, they state their mission.

"The Project SEE coalition exists to expose the 'who, what, where, when, why, how & to what extent' of the satanic efforts to legalize abortion, legalize homosexuality and otherwise contaminate Kenya with tolerance for the rebellious abominations that have corrupted the USA and Europe, and caused unbelievers to blaspheme the name of the Lord Jesus Christ."

The group claims to be raising funds to "equip our Kenyan Brothers with Cameras, Banners, Fliers, Posters, Bus Fare; the Tools they Need to STOP Exporting Evil."

ProjectSEE's U.S. coordinator and website editor is Jonathan O'Toole of Carrollton, Georgia, who is married to a Kenyan woman, Esther Njenga.

O'Toole has previously posted an endorsement of convicted murderer James Charles Kopp on the Army of God website.

"James Kopp did what our elected governing representatives have failed to do: protect the lives of unborn babies with the least amount of necessary force. God bless James Kopp," O'Toole wrote.

In 2003, Kopp was convicted of the murder of Dr. Barnett Slepian, a U.S. physician who performed abortions in New York.

The Army of God is a Christian-right organization listed by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group and a domestic terrorist group.

O'Toole has also been linked with another convicted domestic terrorist, Michael Bray of Wilmington, Ohio. Bray was convicted of string of bombings against women's health care clinics offering abortion services. He is the author of A Time to Kill, a book offering religious justification for murdering abortion providers.

O'Toole is also associated with Neal Horsley, also of Carrollton. Horsley is perhaps best known for his March 10 arrest in connection with threats he made against Elton John. Esther Njenga was reportedly present at Horsley's arrest.

Horsley is also running for governor of Georgia for the Creator's Rights Party, advocating a neo-secessionist platform.
