Gangway! The Barista Boyz of Broadway are here. Barista Boyz is the new coffee and espresso stop where, after 3:30 p.m., the shirts come off and you'll have your coffee served to you by the shirtless and sexy Barista Boyz.
'It's gourmet coffee with a kick,' Barista Boyz owner Dave Ray told SGN. 'Really, it's just about having fun.'
And why shouldn't they have fun and take their shirts off? Seattle is arguably the coffee capitol of the world, and Capitol Hill is the biggest Gayborhood north of San Francisco and west of Chicago. Barista Boyz is a perfect fit.
"You've got to have something different from every corner on every block in Seattle," Ray told SGN.
Barista Boyz celebrated their grand opening on March 19, and already appear to have a loyal group of regulars. The grand opening will continue until next weekend.
Including Ray, there are currently four Barista Boyz, and they'll bring you your coffee with a different theme six days out of the week. You'll be satisfied whether you show up on Macho Monday, Trouser Tuesday, Customer's Choice Wednesday, Greaser Thursday, Fireman Friday, or Barista's Choice Saturday. Once Barista Boyz has the manpower, Ray says he'll open up for business on Sundays.
So what makes a good cup of coffee, according to the Barista Boyz? Ray says, "Not too bitter, smooth, and & a vibrant flavor." Of course, having a shirtless barista give it to you will help with the taste, as well.
Barista Boyz serves Fidalgo Bay Coffee, an earth-friendly, fair trade, small roasting company from Burlington, WA. They also sell baked goods, soft drinks, candy, etc.
According to Ray, people come to the Hill because it's a unique place, just as people come to Seattle because it's a unique place. Ray sees certain places as part of the local flavor, like Dick's Drive-In. Ray envisions that one day, Barista Boyz will be a reason to visit Capitol Hill.
While barraged by customers on multiple sides - along with a Barista Boyz hopeful dropping off his application - Ray said, "We're here to have a lot of fun and give people gourmet coffee and a nice experience."
