Psychic fair promises fun for skeptics and believers alike

Intuitive Arts Fair
May 8
Interfaith Community Church

Still haven't decided on whether your mom gets treated to flowers or the same kitchen tools you got her last year, or some perfume she'll probably re-gift later? Well, how about something completely different, something she'll not only love you for, but most likely won't need to return for the right size or color? A professional tarot reading, astrology reading, or any number of other unique items you won't find at your local Walmart or Fred Meyer could be just the thing.

Wondering where you can obtain this delightful gift (and hear some dynamite lectures by professionals in the fields of astrology and other esoteric subjects)? Why, at the Intuitive Arts Fair May 8. The fair, to be held at Interfaith Community Church in Ballard (1763 N.W. 62nd Street) will feature a diverse group of intuitives, including yours truly and her life partner, who is one of the best astrologers, focusing in Chinese and Vedic astrology, on the West coast.

Shanti Mai, who had been living in British Columbia for the last 10 years before leaving Washington back in the mid-'90s, organized the fair because she felt she wanted to not only have more visibility as an emotional intuitive for herself, but because she also wanted to give others in the same field the same benefits.

"When I moved back here, I found myself thinking, 'I wish more people were doing psychic events.' Then I thought, 'I need to do it myself.' I found the place and then everything else just fell into place. I'm totally excited about the fair now and looking forward to people being able to check it out. Even if they don't get readings that day, to at least get business cards and make appointments for later," Mai said. She said she liked doing the fair in Ballard because she lives there and believes many people will be interested in dropping by to check it out.

"We have not only intuitive readers and astrologers, but we also have vendors who'll be selling handmade soaps, candles, and books, with the authors present for signings. There'll also be lectures all day and the whole fair is free to get in," she continued.

She finished by saying that she hopes to do two more fairs this year, and hopes this will become a regular event that happens three times a year. She also hopes to have different people at the fair every time.

"So that if people can't make this one, they can make the next one, and they'll have a different experience every time," Mai finished. So, if your mom's the adventurous or even the skeptical type, bring her in, or at least check it out yourself. Heck, in today's uncertain times, knowing something of a direction can only be a good thing.
