2010 Capitol Hill Pride Festival
by Shaun Knittel - SGN Staff Writer

Preparations for the 2010 Capitol Hill Pride Festival are underway. Now in its second year, the free, all-ages, family-friendly event will take place on Saturday June 26 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Broadway

According to the festival's officials, the goal of the Capitol Hill Pride Festival is to celebrate diversity and community Pride. The festival is open to everyone - LGBT or straight, anyone of any background.

The Capitol Hill Pride Festival will be a five-block-long festival that will be held on Broadway E. between E. John and Roy Sts. in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, the center of the city's LGBT community. This year, the festival will feature four public stages, a "kids' zone," and over 200 booths and vendors. Event organizers promise live entertainment, music, and a Doggie Drag Costume contest, to name a few.

The festival will be expanding three more blocks this year. Vendors will be set up from The Deluxe Bar and Grill on Roy St. to Rite Aid on John St. Last year, the festival received 5,000 visitors; however, this year, organizers are expecting anywhere from 7,000-10,000 visitors.

The Capitol Hill Pride Committee has announced it has received a matching fund project grant from the City of Seattle Mayor's Office.

Charlette LeFevre, a Capitol Hill Pride Festival official, says the city of Seattle has commissioned the filming of the festival for a DVD project. All sales from the DVD will go to different organizations that the Capitol Hill Pride Festival Committee chooses as beneficiaries.

LeFevre says that there are still a few booths spaces open, but they are going fast. The booth spaces are 10 x 10 and cost $100. The deadline for signups is June 15.

Also, LeFevre has announced an open call to all artists and entertainers who would like to be a part of the lineup on one of four stages. To submit your band, act, or talent for consideration, e-mail festival organizers at capitolhillfestival@gmail.com.
