Deck the Hall Ball, Feist, Best of Music 2010

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

The lineup for this year's 'Deck the Hall Ball' has been announced: Broken Bells, The Black Keys, Jimmy Eat World, Cake, Temper Trap, and Sleigh Bells fill the roster for the 2010 installment of The End's annual holiday shindig. This is the most impressive artist collective the radio station has boasted since the year when The Shins, Snow Patrol, The Killers, Keane, Franz Ferdinand, and Modest Mouse jammed at Key Arena. There was also the time when Linkin Park shook the walls at Moore Theatre, or the year I was so distracted backstage with Shiny Toy Guns that I entirely missed Death Cab for Cutie's set at WaMu Theater - ahh, the memories. Tickets for Deck the Hall Ball go on sale November 6 (10 a.m.) to the general public at all Ticketmaster outlets, and 'Friends of The End' will be privileged to an exclusive pre-sale on November 4. The actual concert takes place December 8 at WaMu Theater, and rumor has it that one of the event's performers will be interviewing with Seattle Gay News.

Whether you like her, love her, or don't really care what she does, Feist is an artist with a style like no other. The multiple-Grammy nominee appears in the upcoming documentary Look at What the Light Did Now, a peek into her life as an acclaimed singer-songwriter and recording professional. Recently screened at the University of Washington's Henry Art Gallery, much of the footage from this bio-doc was taken when Feist's album The Reminder was being made. In quiet interviews, she discusses her visions of fusing art displays and music together during her live performances, and collaborators such as director Patrick Daughters recalls shooting the video for '1234' when Feist changed her mind at the last second to jump out of a window in a pivotal scene. Look at the What the Light Did Now will arrive in DVD and music stores in early December, just in time to please fans of this whispery vocalist for the holidays.

What were the best albums of 2010? The coolest singles of the year? The greatest live shows of the past 12 months? The true stinkers from January through December? You'll know on December 17 when Seattle Gay News announces its choices for the Best of Music 2010 (including a few mentions of the year's worst musical contributions). I'll soon announce a special interview to be included with this year-end issue, so stay glued.

A few upcoming concerts are worth announcing: Amos Lee at the Moore Theatre (January 20), Interpol at The Showbox SoDo (January 28), and Pete Yorn w/ Ben Kweller at The Showbox SoDo (April 1).

Finally, nominations for the 2011 Grammy Awards will be announced on December 2. Look for a preview with picks and predictions on November 19 in the Seattle Gay News, and in late January look for an exclusive peek of the big awards night here in 'The Music Lounge' as I jet to Los Angeles for tours of The Grammy Museum and Staples Center.
