Steamworks robbed

by Mike Andrew - SGN Staff Writer

Steamworks was robbed and one of its employees was assaulted on the night of December 1.

Brian Short of Steamworks headquarters in San Francisco told SGN that the incident was highly unusual.

The robbery took place about 11:00 p.m.

According to reports, the robber told the Steamworks employee he had a gun and ordered him to empty the till. He then sprayed the employee with pepper spray as the cash register was being emptied.

Short declined to say how much money was taken.

Police and a medic unit responded to the scene, but the employee was able to provide only a general description of the robber.

He was about 5'9", of unknown race, and was wearing a dark hoodie pulled tight to conceal his face.

Short told SGN that Steamworks has security cameras, but ?gthat area wasn?ft covered by the cameras, so all police have to go on is the employee's description.

Although he claimed to be armed, the employee did not see a gun.

The employee was treated at the scene for effects of the pepper spray. According to Short, ?ghe is doing OK.?h

Police have not apprehended a suspect, but 'are talking to our people in Seattle and doing an investigation,' according to Short.

Steamworks employees at the Capitol Hill location declined to speak with SGN about the robbery.
