REMEMBERING BUZZ FLOWERS
I was moved by Anthony Callaway's letter [Goodbye, Buzz, January 7, 2011]. I have read Buzz Flowers' letters in the SGN for years. I did not know the man. (Chances are I probably did, being a Gay man in Seattle for as long as he lived here).

His letters sometimes had a point. Many of them were just chatty visiting. Nothing wrong with that!

Thank you, Anthony, for letting us know why we won't get to see your dad's letters anymore.

Thank you, Seattle Gay News, for printing Buzz's letters.

We've lost a friend. So long, Buzz.

John Gessner

ARIZONA DISABILITY LAW AND REP. GIFFORDS
Any attempt by Arizona to apply its statute on disability of elected officials to U.S. Representative Gabriella Giffords for the purpose of removing her from office would be patently unconstitutional. So says the United States Supreme Court. In U.S. Term Limits, Inc. v. Thornton, 514 U.S.779, 115 S.Ct. 1842, 131 L.Ed.2d 881 (1995), the Court overturned Arkansas's term limits law for members of Congress. They ruled the Constitution already has specific qualifications to be a member of Congress, and neither voters or state legislators can add to those qualifications.

Attorneys for Congresswoman Giffords should file for a restraining order in Federal District Court in Phoenix, blocking enforcement of that Arizona law. Both the governor and attorney general of Arizona took oaths to uphold the Constitution of the United States. That would include U.S. Supreme Court decisions.
