Red Lion workers win, boycott called off
Courtesy of Pride At Work AFL-CIO Workers at the Red Lion Seattle Airport Hotel announced on February 9 that they have called off their boycott of the hotel.

In a statement from union organizer Sarah Warren, the hotel workers' union, UNITE HERE, said:

'Thanks to the strength of the employees and the support of our community and labor allies, today we reached a tentative agreement with the Red Lion Seattle Airport.

'Given this exciting turn of events, the worker committee has decided to call off the boycott of their hotel pending ratification of a new contract.'

The boycott had been scheduled to begin on February 10.

Workers at the hotel voted to boycott their employer over contract negotiations that had dragged on for more than a year.

At issue was contract language that would protect workers and their union if the hotel or the attached restaurant were sold or if a subcontractor took over the work.

The company had maintained strong objections to successorship language that would protect employees if the hotel ceased operating the restaurant, but with the boycott looming, the employers opted to settle quickly.

UNITE HERE promised to post 'details of the agreement and the result of the vote' on their website, www.unitehere8.org.
