One Degree Events announces Celebrity Bingo for Pride at Seattle Center
by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

For nearly a decade, Lifelong AIDS Alliance's Gay Bingo was one of the most popular fundraising events in the local LGBT community. Last year, Lifelong decided to end the event to focus on other programs, and Gay Bingo was immediately missed.

One Degree Events officials, who produce the annual PrideFest at the Seattle Center, told Seattle Gay News that they are bringing back Gay Bingo as Pride Bingo.

According to Egan Orion, the festival director, the theme for this year's Pride Bingo event is 'Celebrity Bingo,' with prizes given to participants dressed up as LGBT or LGBT-allied celebrities such as Madonna, Elton John, or Cher. Pride Bingo is officially scheduled for June 24 at Fisher Pavilion at the Seattle Center from 8-10 p.m.

One Degree Events say that 100% of the net proceeds from Pride Bingo will benefit local HIV/AIDS charities.

In addition, One Degree Events has announced that Armistead Maupin, bestselling author of the Tales of the City series, is booked to deliver the keynote at PrideFest and will be on hand to sign books.

'His keynote will follow the thematic of PrideFest this year,' Egan told SGN. 'We will be looking back with a personal look at the AIDS crisis and looking forward towards marriage equality.'

This year's Seattle PrideFest theme is 'BE YOU: Show Your True Colors.'

One Degree Events took over the Downtown Pride Festival in 2007, renaming it PrideFest. Since then, the festival has grown from a 10,000-person crowd to over 70,000 in 2010. Historically, the PrideFest has been a one-day event, but this year One Degree Events officials say the celebration will last two days - one an open-air benefit concert, and the other the big festival with three stages from noon to 8 p.m. at the Seattle Center, immediately following the Downtown Pride Parade.
