Music Lounge: Bruno Mars, Esperanza Spalding, and a Sasquatch sell-out
by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

He won his first Grammy this week and is now headed to Seattle. Bruno Mars, whose single 'Just the Way You Are' nabbed the award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, will perform at WaMu Theater on June 2 with special guest Janelle Monae. The two were part of a trio - the other B.o.B. - that collaborated for a memorable performance on the televised ceremony. The Mars-Monae show, billed as the 'Hooligans in Wonderland' tour came to my attention just before deadline, so no ticket information was immediately available, but visit www.brunomars.com for further details.

You've been hearing a lot about Esperanza Spalding this year in the Seattle Gay News, and we're going to add to that with upcoming exclusive coverage of the 2011 Best New Artist-Grammy winner. The eclectic musician, a product of our neighboring Rose City, will return to her Northwest roots on February 25 to headline the Portland Jazz Festival at the Newmark Theatre - the concert has been sold out for weeks, and I'm one of the fortunate 880 people with a ticket. Look for a review of Spalding's show, her first hometown appearance since taking home the big Grammy, in the March 4 issue of Seattle Gay News.

Have plans to go to Sasquatch? Make other plans, because it's completely sold out - 100,000 tickets, all gone! This year's festival includes Foo Fighters, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, Wilco, Sleigh Bells, Robyn, Iron & Wine, The Decemberists, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Against Me!, The Drums, Bright Eyes, and The Moondoggies, plus many more. Added to the lineup after the official announcement is The Radio Dept., who've offered themselves to me for an interview - check back in May for a possible exclusive with this band.

Finally, in case you didn't know, the Crystal Castles gig on March 8 originally slated for The Showbox Market has been moved to its sister club, The Showbox SoDo. I'm there, so look for a review of the concert later that week. March 8 is Mardi Gras, so let's bust out those beads for the concert!
