DJ Keano brings big bass to Tuesday nights

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

C89.5 DJ Keano Martinez, is promising Seattle a night of dubstep that's 100% fun with 100% bass inside Neighbours Nightclub every Tuesday night.

DJ Keano, the host and producer of C89.5's The Bassment, told Seattle Gay News he is ready to make his mark on the nightlife circuit by making you shake your ass.

'When I spin, you can expect bass-heavy tunes pumping through Neighbours' incredible sound system,' he said. 'Wall to wall bass with an extremely excited C89.5 DJ moving to the beat of the music!'

Keano says his style is a 'new and inviting sound.'

'Dubstep is a genre of dance music based out of London primarily derived from U.K. garage, reggae, and drum 'n' bass,' he explained. 'U.S. dubstep tends to be heavier and hosts a lot of sounds popular in hip-hop. Due to the rise in popularity, dubstep has become more mainstream and you can hear aspects of it in many types of music including pop, hip-hop, and house.'

Keano says evidence of dubstep's influence on popular music can be found with Britney Spears' newest album. 'Dubstep producer Rusko is producing the pop star's new work.'

Keano got his start at the student-run radio station C89.5 in 2006. 'I spent at least eight hours a day at the station,' he recalled. 'Each day I was circled by professional DJs and club standard equipment, so every day I practiced DJing both as an on-air personality and on the turntables.'

'C89.5 is the largest dance radio station in the nation, and because of that we have DJs from all over who come in, so whenever I had the chance, I would get tips from them,' he said.

'I love music, and I love being able to share it with others,' said Keano. 'I like dance music in general, but specifically bass-heavy dance music makes me feel carefree and alive & and when the bass drops, I feel vibrations crawl up and down my spine, overwhelming my senses with a legal high!'

'I am also all for the scene,' he added. 'I love how when you go to a dance party, everyone is chill.'

There is no cover for Dubstep at Neighbours. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the party is 21+.

'Tune in to my C89.5 show Thursday nights from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.,' said Keano. 'And come enjoy some great music Tuesday night at Neighbours!'
