Pandora Boxx returns to R Place

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

According to Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman ever created. She opened the forbidden box and unleashed all the evils unto the world, leaving only man's hope inside.

Today, audiences love it when comedian and drag queen extraordinaire Pandora Boxx unleashes on them. And guess what, Seattle? She's coming back to town April 22-23 at R Place!

Pandora Boxx has been entertaining the masses internationally for more than a decade. Pandora most recently appeared as a contestant on the second season of the smash hit RuPaul's Drag Race on the LGBT network Logo. The show garnered the highest ratings ever for the cable network. Despite not winning, Pandora proved to be the breakout star.

'I started when Abe Lincoln was in office,' Pandora Boxx told Seattle Gay News. 'Mary Todd was a great drag inspiration! I didn't have a choice to start drag or not; it was a drive-by lip-glossing. My life was never the same!'

Pandora was a fan favorite on Drag Race. She told SGN that life on the show was 'Totally cray-cray.'

'But crazy in a good way,' she added. 'It was a big game-changer for my professional life. I'm so thankful to RuPaul's Drag Race for giving me an amazing opportunity. Now I'm able to travel all over the country and entertain people. It's something I've always wanted to do.'

The popularity from Drag Race led to her role as a drag professor on the spinoff show RuPaul's Drag U. In addition, Pandora recently hosted Dragtastic: NYC Stand Up Comedy Special, which also aired on Logo.

Seattle audiences love Pandora Boxx. 'I was in Seattle last year, where I did a show for the Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival,' she recalled. 'I also made a stop at The Lobby Bar. I had an amazing time in Seattle! The people are so welcoming. I was actually going to brunch during the day (out of drag) and this man and woman ran out of the restaurant they were in, still with food in their mouths, just to say hello! Now that's quite a reception!'

Life isn't all fun and jokes, and entertainers like Pandora Boxx find ways to use their talents to raise money and awareness for important issues that are vital to our community. 'Ever since I revealed my suicide attempts on RuPaul's Drag Race, I have gotten so many emails and messages,' she explained. 'I was told by quite a few people that I saved their lives because of what I said. That is truly powerful. I never expected that type of response. I really want to do all that I can do to make people feel like they belong. That's why I love organizations like The Trevor Project [www.thetrevorproject.org] because they are helping the LGBT community so much. I wholly support them. I'm actually planning to release a single that goes along with my beliefs and being able to love yourself no matter what, so look for that soon!'

Never been to a Pandora Boxx performance? Well, you don't want to miss it. Pandora promises a night of laughs, entertainment, and community. 'The audience can expect more goodies from my Boxx! I gave Seattle a taste of me and they asked for seconds, so I don't want to disappoint!'

Above all, she says, 'most definitely expect some hilarity.'

'Anyone can always find out what I'm up to or where I'm at on my website, www.pandoraboxx.com. I'm also on Twitter (@ThePandoraBoxx) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/thepandoraboxx),' she said. 'Look for fabulously wonderful things to come out of this Boxx soon!'

Pandora Boxx is scheduled to appear at R Place April 22-23 at 8 p.m. doors, 9 p.m. show. Tickets are $25 for VIP and $15 for general admission. These shows will sell out, so get your ticket today! Tickets available at www.brownpapertickets.com.
