2011 Capitol Hill Pride Festival to take place June 25 |
by Shaun Knittel -
SGN Associate Editor
The Northwest Museum of Legends and Lore, Seattle Gay News, and Broadway businesses are proud to announce the Capitol Hill Pride Festival 2011 on Broadway, June 25, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The event is designed as a community festival celebrating pride and diversity. It will take place on the five blocks from John St. to Roy St. on Broadway in Capitol Hill. There will be three stages, live music, food, and entertainment featuring a diversity of performers - from youth groups to drag queens - and over 100 local vendors.
In addition to the entertainment, there will be a doggie drag costume contest and (new this year) a Paint for Pride exhibit on Broadway, which makes the festival one of the largest art walks in Seattle.
The Paint for Pride exhibit will add some color to the Pride palette. The exhibit will provide various local artists a spot within the festival's limits to let their own personal feelings of pride be shown. Registration is $10.
Also for the first time this year, restaurants will be able to serve alcohol on the street in a table setting, giving Broadway a European air.
Attendance is expected to reach over 20,000 throughout the day, up from the 15,000 in attendance in 2010.
More information on booths, the doggie drag contest, and Paint for Pride is posted at www.capitolhillpridefestival.net.
At this time, booth spaces are still available. Applications can be mailed to Capitol Hill Pride Festival Committee, c/o Northwest Museum of Legends and Lore, P.O. Box 12213, Seattle, WA 98102.
Additional application forms can be picked up and dropped off at Perfect Copy and Print on Broadway near Denny Way.
For additional information, contact Charlette LeFevre or Philip Lipson at (206) 523-6348. For more information on Paint for Pride, call Celine LeFevre at (206) 419-6995.
