Seattle band Nightcaps at Vito's October 15
by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

Nightcaps, Seattle's original lounge stars, reunite for their first public performance in over seven years on October 15 at Vito's Lounge in Seattle's First Hill neighborhood at 9:30 p.m.

Returning are the Nightcaps principals: vocalist Theresa Hannam, drummer Dan Cunneen, guitarist Garth Brandenburg, bassist Bill Herzog, and keyboardist Tor Midtskog.

For their reunion show, the band wanted to make it intimate and return to their roots.

'We had played Vito's back in the day and we heard great things about the new ownership,' said Hannam. 'We really love what they've done with the place.'

'Vito's really is the perfect place for us to play,' added Cunneen. 'Like us, it's updated, but still has that great old-school vibe.'

To mark the occasion, the Nightcaps CDs Split and Get On have been released digitally worldwide for the first time. In addition, a new Nightcaps album, In the Live Room (+ the singles) has also been released.

Fronted by smoky-voiced songstress Hannam, the Nightcaps were an integral part of the 1990s national lounge-music revival. Nightcaps enjoyed a substantial Gay following and once played The Chicken Soup Brigade's 'Care to Dance' benefit.

Nightcaps' distinctive combination of '60s pop, jazz, torch, and soul - infused with their own complementary roar - set them apart from other bands in the 'cocktail nation' set. Fun and funny, but never a joke, Nightcaps' slyly subversive DIY approach exposed their punk-rock roots and made the band a top draw in Seattle and beyond.

In addition to stand-out performances at South By Southwest, North By Northwest, Bumbershoot, and Seattle Art Museum's Black and White Ball, Nightcaps have headlined top-notch clubs up and down the West Coast - including The Casbah in San Diego, The Viper Room and Spaceland in Los Angeles, San Francisco's Café Du Nord and Bottom of the Hill, The Crystal Ballroom and Satyricon in Portland, The Crocodile Café and Showbox in Seattle, and The Blue Lizard in Vancouver, B.C.
