Source: StopSB48 has collected 415,000 of the 504,760 signatures it needs
to force a June voter referendum on California's new law requiring
teaching of LGBT history. Source believes the signatures are 'validated'
-- 'self-validated,' that is. The deadline for turning in the signatures
is Oct. 12. Equality California's campaign to save SB 48 can be found at
http://faireducationaction.com .
In response, EQCA's communications director, Rebekah Orr, told me today:
'We've always been concerned that they would qualify for the ballot, and
there has been a strong hope among everyone who wants to see the Fair
Education Act be protected that they wouldn't come close. If indeed that
415,000 number is true, then we certainly are concerned that they are
likely to quality for the ballot on the 12th. We also know they have more
work to do.'
Equality California Executive Director Roland Palencia told me: 'If we
don't win this, it also will impact other pro-equality fights, so it's
really, really critical that we take a stand and that people get
involved.'
