Jinkx Monsoon joins the cast of Le Faux

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

An Evening at Le Faux
Julia's on Broadway
Fridays and Saturdays

Drag superstar Jinkx Monsoon is the new host of Le Faux, Seattle's most outrageous celebrity impersonation show, at Julia's on Broadway - and she couldn't have done a better job than on her first few nights (November 11 and 12) as the lead lady in a pair of pumps. Jinkx served up authenticity, comedy, and one hell of a singing voice as sold-out audiences reveled in the spectacle that is An Evening at Le Faux.

The show, now entering its sixth year, has never been better. Jinkx Monsoon is more than a drag queen; one part actor, one part comedian mixed with an amazing vocal range, she sings, dances, and delights from the moment she walks onstage, performing original pieces (including the infamous 'Jinkxalicious') and doing a stellar job bantering with the crowd and introducing each act. Even if you've watched the show a dozen times - as many of you have - Jinkx Monsoon is reason enough to see it again. She is that good. Jinkx's fans love them some classic cabaret and vaudeville - and so do I - but it's thrilling to see her in a Le Faux's polished acts. She is at home on the Le Faux stage, and as its headliner, Jinkx is beginning to get the recognition and admiration a star of her caliber deserves.

Let's talk about the dancers. The celebrity impersonators have a full cast of dancers who back them up on almost every number in the production. Talented professional dancers who make their characters really come to life flank Robbie Turner's flawless Lady Gaga and Liza Minnelli. Isaac Scott's Britney has all eyes on her in the center of the ring with her circus dancers. Jackson Brown's Cher has cute sailors at her fingertips while performing the mega-hit 'If I Could Turn Back Time.' Ryan Stone - who impersonates the legendary Michael Jackson - has got the gloved one's moves down pat; something many MJ impersonators fall short on. The creators of Le Faux and the cast that leaves it all on the stage at every show fully understand that it is not enough just to look like the character; in order to convey the genius of each one, you must also dance, act, and move like them.

Throughout the night, it is easy to see why audiences keep coming back again and again - no other drag impersonation show incorporates multimedia, a confetti cannon, an aerial artist, and more.

Victor Nguyen, whose acrobatic prowess impresses even the most jaded critics, is a joy to watch. His tiny frame allows him to soar above the stage and entertain in the unique way that only an aerial artist can. In addition, Victor is a dancer in many of the show's numbers, making him a star in his own right.

In short, the producers of Le Faux got it right. The over 100 ticket holders at each show would agree - Le Faux is the definitive female and celebrity impersonation show in the region. Over-the-top, glamorous, and in a league of its own, it's the hottest ticket in town.

Speaking of tickets, they go fast, so be sure to purchase them online at brownpapertickets.com. Prices range from $25 to $50. Seating begins at 9:30 p.m., with the show at 10 p.m. Dinner is available before the show, starting at 7 p.m. For dinner reservations, call (206) 334-0513. Appetizers and cocktails are available during the show. After the show, join the cast for happy hour at Julia's bar. V.I.P. tickets are available as well.

You can have your photo taken onstage with the entire Le Faux cast for only $10 - the perfect souvenir of an unforgettable night.
