Young the Giant interview for 'Best of Music 2011'

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

Young the who? Giant, as in enormous. Young the Giant, from Irvine, California, is a band that has rapidly become a staple on rock music stations and college campuses. 'My Body' was such a big hit, they were asked to perform it on the MTV VMA awards telecast a few months ago, and it's been all uphill from there. 'Cough Syrup,' the third single from Young the Giant's self-titled debut, is currently No. 2 on the alternative music charts here in the U.S. and No. 5 in Canada. The group played at three of the largest American summer festivals this year - Sasquatch, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits - and they recently appeared at 107.7's sold out 'Deck The Hall Ball' here in Seattle. The magic carpet ride continues in 2012 for this ambitious quintet, set to embark on a headlining tour from February through April that includes a final date at Seattle's Moore Theatre.

As has become tradition at Seattle Gay News, a feature artist interview is part of our year-end music issue that has so far included Death Cab for Cutie, Franz Ferdinand, Sleigh Bells, and Passion Pit. This time, it's Young the Giant, who'll share their personal favorites of the past year (music, films, stuff, etc.) and plans for the upcoming holidays with us. Find out if they've been naughty or nice, and what they really want for Christmas.

Our 'Best of Music 2011' issue, including picks for our top albums, singles, live performances, and hottest artists (as well as our choices for the year's worst music), will be revealed on December 16.
