BEST OF MUSIC: Worst of music 2011

by Albert Rodriguez, Jessica Price, Shaun Knittel, and Jerry L. Peerson - SGN A&E Writers

The year's low points in music were at the expense of these performers, who beat out some tough competition.

Worst of Music 2011 (in random order)
1) Beyoncé - 4 album, diva derailment, burnout

Beyoncé thought she was running the world, but instead she was running out of steam. Sounding exhausted and overly commercial, her latest album 4 was something we'd expect from baby sis Solange. With so many ad endorsements, a bun in the oven, high-profile marriage, a dissipating film career, and overexposure, 2011 was the year Beyoncé tumbled. A. Rodriguez

2) Lady Gaga - MTV VMAs appearance, drug admission, Grammy nominations performance
We love you, but honey, you need a break. The pop icon began the year strong, releasing a new single and album, then taking 'The Monster Ball Tour' on a four-month sold-out ride. But her confession to snorting coke for the hell of it, her ridiculous crossdressing appearance on the MTV VMAs, a foul duet with Sugarland in the Grammy nominations concert, and releasing yet more merchandise - DVD, remix CD, collectors' set - was just too much Gaga. A. Rodriguez

3) Justin Bieber - Under the Mistletoe album, babydaddy drama, oversaturation
A paternity lawsuit, a fragrance, a nail polish collection, and an unforgiveable Christmas album (Under the Mistletoe) all before age 20? Somebody please stop the madness. J.Price

4) Rebecca Black - 'Friday' single, undeserving notoriety
Her horrid, manufactured-in-a-soccer-mom's-mini-van 'song' rivals Rick Perry for 2011's most worthless and detested YouTube hits. The only thing that would've made 'Friday' worse was if Perry himself spewed out the mid-song rap. J.L. Peerson

5) J-Lo - 'On the Floor' single, 'T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)' collaboration w/ Will.i.am, overall bore
Some may debate that J-Lo's 2011 was a year filled with great success, but when dividing her, um, talents on a lackluster year of American Idol, a new record that received mixed reviews, and a painfully awful collaboration with Will.i.am, opinions of excess rather than success are given credence. J.L. Peerson

6) Jay-Z / Kanye West - Watch the Throne album, overblown egos
Possibly the two most bloated egos hip-hop has ever seen, joined together on an album and tour made in megalomania heaven. Their talent will surely implode under the weight of their self-importance. J.Price

7) Maroon 5 - 'Moves Like Jagger' single, pop star cheese
Not even Adam Levine's tattoos and slinky pelvis will keep me from being sick of this song. Give it a rest, Maroon 5. J.Price

8) Kim Kardashian - 'Jam (Turn It Up)' single, tabloid leech
Desperate for any kind of attention, ex-porn star Kardashian decided to irritate us further by recording a song. Yes, in between trying to look important and orchestrating a faux marriage, the reality TV star (and nothing else) poisoned our ear canals with audio garbage. Furthermore, her Sears fashion collection is pitiful. A. Rodriguez

9) Wiz Khalifa - 'Black and Yellow' single, pandering to sports fans
An easy way to make a buck is by immediately selling out to sports fans, like this hip-hop newbie did by giving Steeltown fans a pathetic game-day anthem. A. Rodriguez

10) Kreayshawn - 'Gucci Gucci' single, rap posers
First of all, you ain't pretty. Second, you can't rap. Third, Cinnabon needs you back at work. A. Rodriguez
