Emii struts her stuff in 'Stilettos'

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

Pop recording artist and singer-songwriter Emii's career is on the rise. Bursting onto the dance music scene with her first single, 'Magic,' in 2010, Emii quickly earned a legion of loyal fans who love the pop star's style, swagger, and talent. She's worked with some of the industry's top producers and even recorded the single 'Mr. Romeo' with rapper Snoop Dogg. Currently, her infectious dance hit 'Stilettos' is climbing the DJ Times and Billboard charts. She's catching the attention of some of music's biggest acts. Rihanna and Lady Gaga even subscribe to her YouTube channel.

Emii recently spoke with Seattle Gay News about her new single, her Gay fans, and the fact that she may have recorded a drag queen anthem.

The young star says that she records dance music because 'it inspires us to have fun and let go sometimes.'

'We all need a break from the drama, and dance music is that outlet,' said Emii. 'I want to inspire people to kick the bad juju and enjoy life to the fullest.'

Emii counts Michael Jackson, Gloria Gaynor, Aretha Franklin, and Madonna as artists who have inspired her.

She recorded 'Stilettos' because she says she is a 'stiletto-rockin' pop-dance diva with a love for adventure, fashion, and living in the moment.'

'Stilettos' is all about celebrating the little things in life that empower us,' she told SGN. 'The song is meant to inspire and create excitement. Also, I wanted to record a song that would make people feel sexy.'

'I love them dearly,' Emii says of her Gay fans. 'They are family, and they inspire me!'

Realizing that 'Stilettos' is not only about girl power, but also all about the world of glamour and fashion that accompanies drag entertainers, Emii says she's all for drag queens taking the song as their anthem.

'I'd seriously be excited and honored to have a drag queen perform my song,' she told SGN. 'I would be in the audience, cheering 'Work it!'

Emii has performed across the U.S. and overseas. Most recently she performed in Beirut, Lebanon.

'I haven't performed in Seattle yet,' she said, adding, 'but I will get there, and when I do, we will party!'
