Romney is the Gay candidate, Santorum says
by Mike Andrew - SGN Staff Writer

Robo-calls supporting Rick Santorum in the Wisconsin Republican primary urged voters to reject 'homosexuality and Mitt Romney,' the most outrageous language Santorum supporters have used to date.

'When you vote tomorrow, please vote for social sanity and Rick Santorum, not for homosexuality and Mitt Romney,' the call said.

'Rick Santorum is the only candidate who can be trusted to uphold traditional marriage, a straight military, and the rights of American children to have both a mother and a father.'

A very similar message was used in Ohio. Romney won both primaries.

The pro-Santorum calls cited Romney's actions when he was governor of Massachusetts from January 2003 through January 2007.

'As governor, Romney signed Gay Youth Pride Day proclamations, promoted homosexuality in our elementary schools, and unconstitutionally ordered state officials to make Massachusetts America's first same-sex marriage state,' the calls charged.

'Romney supports open homosexuality in the military, the appointment of homosexual judges, and the ENDA law, making it illegal to fire a man who wears a dress and high heels to work, even if he's your kid's teacher.'

As governor, Romney was responsible for implementing the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court order establishing marriage equality, but he, in fact, opposed same-sex marriage and tried to get a constitutional amendment banning it onto the ballot.

The robo-calls, which first appeared a day before voters in Ohio headed to the polls on Super Tuesday, feature Brian Camenker, who heads the anti-Gay group MassResistance, and were paid for by a group called Jews and Christians Together.

The group says it also emailed similar messages to more than one million voters in Ohio prior to the Republican primary.

Jews and Christians Together appears to be a front for Camenker's MassResistance, which is listed as an anti-Gay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The Jews and Christians Together website is essentially a platform linking to attacks on Romney by Camenker's group.

A media release concerning the robo-calls quotes Dr. Gary Cass, president of a group called DefendChristians.org, and a member of Jews and Christians Together. Cass has produced videos alleging that President Obama is a Muslim and attacking Romney's Mormon faith for 'hostility to Christianity.'

Based in Newton, Massachusetts, MassResistance has been accused of intimidating opponents and public officials.

One of the group's most notorious actions took place in June 2006, when they protested what they called 'Transgender mannequins' in a Macy's Pride Week window display. They did not explain how the gender of the mannequins was determined.
