Mika's coming-out surprises no one

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

British singer Mika made it official this week: he's Gay. The long-awaited announcement caused no shock waves among his fans and colleagues, who all suspected it from Day One. But similar to Ricky Martin, who confirmed his sexuality in advance of a book release, Mika has revealed his true self just weeks before his new album, The Origin of Love, lands in record stores. 'Celebrate' is the first single from the forthcoming CD, which features hip-hop star/producer Pharrell Williams. The Origin of Love is out September 16.

The Earshot Jazz Festival has unveiled part of its 2012 lineup. Blues mama Bettye LaVette, ukulele wiz Jake Shimabukuro, Brazilian singer Luciana Souza, standout trumpeter Christian Scott, local act the Dave Peck Trio, and jazz all-star Branford Marsalis (with the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra) are some of the performers scheduled to appear. The festival runs October 12 through November 4 at multiple venues. Expect more artists to be added to the three-week event soon. The complete roster and ticket information is available at www.earshot.org.

While it's unclear whether Barbra Streisand will add more dates to her upcoming tour, the good news for Seattle fans, thus far, is you're only a few hours away from seeing her live. The Gay icon has announced an October 29 performance at Rogers Arena in Vancouver with tickets already on sale, ranging between $196.45 and $529.85 (Canadian). Streisand is expected to play at least one show on the West Coast here in the States - perhaps more - and I'll keep you posted on a possible Seattle appearance.

The Olympics' closing ceremony this weekend may feature two big Gay artists, Elton John and George Michael, who are rumored to be rehearsing in Dagenham, near London. Other names being whispered include the Rolling Stones, Adele, the Spice Girls, Muse, One Direction, members of Queen, Kate Bush, and Ed Sheeran, who has a sold-out concert at the Showbox SoDo in early October. The ceremony will air Sunday evening, August 12, on NBC (check local listings for exact time).

Finally, DJ extraordinaire Kaskade canceled his promised interview with SGN due to, we're told, a busy schedule. Apologies to anyone looking for that interview this week.
