Green Day launching tour at Paramount Theatre

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

Green Day loves Seattle. This is a fact, since the Grammy-winning trio open their second major tour here in three years. The band - vocalist/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tré Cool - will perform the first date of their North American tour at the Paramount Theatre on November 26. Green Day, who also launched 2009's "21st Century Breakdown World Tour" at Key Arena, will hit the road this fall to support their trilogy album project, ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré!, to be released separately between September 25 and January 15. Tickets for the Paramount concert went on sale September 14, and by now they're probably gone. But log onto www.aeglive.com for the possibility of any remaining seats. More details on the Green Day tour launch coming in the weeks ahead.

As promised, that awesome tigress of rock, Shirley Manson, is my very special guest in "The Music Lounge" next week. The Garbage frontwoman spoke with me by phone recently from her L.A. digs, prior to the group heading out for a tour that includes stops in Mexico, South America, and Europe, as well as here in the states. They'll resume performances after the holidays with five dates in Australia. Manson was as cool as you'd expect her to be, and really down to earth. She takes a firm stance on Gay marriage, spoke highly of Beyonce, discussed her shoe collection, and talked about playing on stage with Kings of Leon and her idol, Chrissie Hynde. It's a great interview with an incredibly fabulous woman, so don't miss next week's issue. Incidentally, the band's Showbox SoDo appearance is close to selling out. Ticket information is available at www.showboxonline.com.

Rihanna is finally coming to the Emerald City. After canceling a White River Amphitheatre performance a few years back, which was supposed to be the start of her tour, she's been nice enough to add Seattle to her 2013 live outing. The Barbadian hitmaker, who has released four consecutive Top 10 albums - Good Girl Gone Bad, Rated R, Loud, and last year's Talk That Talk - is bringing the "Rihanna Diamonds World Tour" to Key Arena on April 3. The 27-city North American itinerary is likely to be followed with performances in Europe and elsewhere. "We Found Love," "Rude Boy," "Only Girl (in the World)," "Don't Stop the Music," "Umbrella," "Disturbia," and "S.O.S." are just some of the songs that Rihanna will probably include in her show. Tickets for the Seattle concert, priced between $36.50 and $122, go on sale September 21 (10 a.m.) at all Ticketmaster locations.

A reminder that these live shows are quickly approaching: Rufus Wainwright at Benaroya Hall (October 1), Madonna at Key Arena (October 2 and 3), Grizzly Bear at Paramount Theatre (October 5), Carrie Underwood at Key Arena (October 6), Gossip at The Showbox Market (October 9), and Taking Back Sunday at The Showbox Market (October 18).

Finally, look for a review of the Hot Chip concert in next week's edition and a review of the Barbra Streisand performance in Vancouver, B.C. (yep, I'm heading up there) in late October/early November.
