Etheridge, Streisand, Pet Shop Boys drop new CDs

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

On the hunt for new music? There's plenty of it out there, but here are five just-released or soon-to-be released albums that you might want to add to your list - all featuring LGBT or LGBT-friendly artists.

4TH STREET FEELING
MELISSA ETHERIDGE

On her latest offering, Melissa Etheridge returns to her roots. The album (available now) is a look back at the Grammy and Oscar winner's adolescent years in her hometown of Leavenworth, Kansas. She also recalls adventurous road trips on the track 'Kansas City.' All in all, 4th Street Feeling is an earthy, somewhat dark, yet inspiring work from one of rock's most genuine female icons.

RELEASE ME
BARBRA STREISAND

International megastar Barbra Streisand returns to the musical spotlight with Release Me, an album of material that was previously recorded but never included on any of her 60-plus albums until now. Out October 9, it includes a cover of Randy Newman's 'I Think It's Going to Rain Today' (with Newman on piano), the Jimmy Webb-penned 'Didn't We,' a studio version of 'With One More Look at You' (from A Star Is Born), 'Home' (from The Wiz), and 'Willow Weep for Me,' which was left off the Simply Streisand album.

ELYSIUM
PET SHOP BOYS

A global audience of millions watched the Pet Shop Boys being pedaled around a soccer stadium in a rickshaw while performing 'West End Girls' during last month's Olympics closing ceremony in London. For fans of this dance-pop duo, the excitement continues with the release of their new album Elysium, out this week. Recorded in Los Angeles, it marks the first time the Pet Shop Boys have recorded a full-length project in America. Produced by three-time Grammy winner Andrew Dawson (Kanye West), Elysium features 12 tracks including the leadoff single 'Winner.'

¡UNO!
GREEN DAY

The first installment of Green Day's album trilogy, ¡Uno!, is set for a September 25 release. The remaining discs, ¡Dos! and ¡Tre!, will be released in November and January, respectively. ¡Uno! features 12 new tracks, including the initial single 'Oh Love' and their newest hit, 'Let Yourself Go,' performed live recently at the MTV Video Music Awards. A third track, 'Kill the DJ,' was released in Europe and Australia as an official single. Green Day will tour in support of all three albums, produced by longtime friend and collaborator Rob Cavallo, kicking off the North American leg at Seattle's Paramount Theatre in late November.

ISLES OF WONDER: MUSIC FOR THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE LONDON 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES
VARIOUS ARTISTS

Despite it being quirky and confusing, Danny Boyle's brainchild - the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games - was chock full of cool music, and every morsel of it has been captured on this now-available two-disc set. The first disc is highlighted by Underworld's dramatic 'And I Will Kiss,' featuring Dame Evelyn Glennie, while the second disc - featuring the music played during the Athletes' Parade, includes remixes of High Contrast's 'Reach' and 'Moon Watcher' plus a great dance version of Underworld's 'Always Loved a Film,' not to mention David Bowie's classic 'Heroes.'
