Seattle's music scene is in a fine fall frenzy |

A FINE FRENZY
A fine what, you ask? A Fine Frenzy. She's a one-woman musical act, born in Seattle, who's sprouted her wings with a trio of subtle pop albums that have earned her fans in France, Poland, Switzerland, and Germany as well as stateside. Her newest work, Pines, is a 13-track collection of beautiful lyrics and melodies blended with dreamy backgrounds - it's a bit Aimee Mann and a pinch Norah Jones, with traces of Colbie Caillat and Ingrid Michaelson. A Fine Frenzy (real name Alison Sudol) is touring the country with fellow singer-songwriter Joshua Radin, who interviewed with me years ago (at Purr, of all places), and arrives in Seattle October 18 as one of the headliners of this year's City Arts Fest. Go to www.cityartsfest.com for a complete schedule. Look for an interview with Alison on October 12 here in The Music Lounge.
RUFUS WAINWRIGHT
Amidst the excitement of Madonna coming to town, you may have forgotten - or you may not even know - that Rufus Wainwright is performing October 1 at Benaroya Hall. The Gay singer-songwriter, who officially took himself off the market by marrying partner Jörn Weisbrodt recently in New York, is on the road boosting this year's release, Out of the Game, with a stop in Seattle, one of his favorite cities to play live. No official press statement was sent out regarding this tour or specific show, which means I have no idea what he'll be including on his set list. My best guess is that he'll introduce several songs from Out of the Game, plus selections from older records. At the Paramount a few years ago, he pulled out 'Going to a Town,' 'Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk,' 'This Love Affair,' and 'Grey Gardens.' It's a toss-up as to what he'll do at Benaroya, and that's the beauty of it - he's unpredictable. Log onto www.seattlesymphony.org/benaroya for ticket information.
GLEN CAMPBELL
'Rhinestone Cowboy' crooner Glen Campbell has announced a November 27 performance at the Paramount Theatre. A true country legend, the Nashville star is touring in support of what he says is his final album, last year's marvelous Ghost on the Canvas. The title track was one of my picks for 2011's best singles. Shamefully ignored by Grammy voters, without a single nomination, Ghost was so genuine and so delicately composed that it made Campbell's recording retirement a bitter pill to swallow. This is very likely your last opportunity to see him in Seattle. Tickets go on sale September 29 (10 a.m.) at www.tickets.com. Also, Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard is set to play a special fundraiser for the Marriage Equality campaign at Smith Tower. Tickets for the October 9 appearance, priced at $75 each, are probably gone by now. And, for fans of French electronic duo Daft Punk, you might wanna check out 'One More Time: A Daft Punk Tribute' at Neumos on October 30.
YOU SNOOZE, YOU LOSE
These concerts are now sold out: Imagine Dragons on October 2 (The Showbox Market), Beach House on October 3 and 4 (The Showbox Market), Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on October 12 (WaMu Theater), Billy Idol on October 26 (The Showbox SoDo), Ben Gibbard on November 16 (The Showbox Market), and Green Day on November 26 (Paramount Theatre).
Finally, besides City Arts Fest (October 17-20, multiple venues), don't forget about another unique Seattle music event, the 2012 Earshot Jazz Festival (October 12-November 4, multiple venues). Information on this jazz showcase can be found at www.earshot.org.
