posted Friday, December 28, 2012 - Volume 40 Issue 52 Statement by Seattle City Council Member Nick Licata on the City Hall marriage ceremonies'I was so impressed with how well-organized it was. The council actually had nothing to do with it; it came through the mayor's office. The mayor's office deserves kudos for having not just a great event, but an extraordinary event, and one that as far as I can tell is the most unique in the nation. I don't think any other city in this country has opened up their City Hall for mass marriages - specifically, mass Gay marriages - and done it in such a classy fashion. I thought the arrangements were terrific, not overpowering. We had six stations going on at all times - they functioned smoothly. I really appreciate the 100-plus volunteers who showed up. It really was an expression of our city community coming together, recognizing the right of individuals to marry whomever they wish and to do it in a safe and celebratory fashion.' |
