Easy Street Records closing Queen Anne store

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

Say adios to Easy Street Records in Queen Anne. After a 12-year run, the independent music store will close January 18 due to a lease issue. Apparently, the shop's landlord wanted significantly more money than he/she/it was already getting, prompting Easy Street to pack up and go. Chase Bank - ever heard of it? - will be moving into the space. For now, the Queen Anne shop will consolidate its inventory at the West Seattle location, so continue to support them over there, or online at www.easystreetonline.com.

GOING GAGA? HERE'S HELP
Mama Monster has taken a big step to keep her kids safe. Lady Gaga revealed plans to provide free counseling services to individuals, primarily teens, on the next leg of her tour that includes a Tacoma date on January 14. The 'Born Brave Bus' will offer concertgoers 'professional private or group chats about mental health, depression, bullying, school, and friends.' In other words, anyone who might be suffering from mental health, depression, or social alienation can receive assistance at no cost by real professionals. Tickets are still available for Lady Gaga's performance at the Tacoma Dome. Visit www.ticketmaster.com for prices and seat selection.

GREEN DAY SNUBS SEATTLE
Seattle fans were to have been the first audience for Green Day's world tour back in November, but those dates were scrapped when lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong checked himself into rehab. Just before the New Year, the band announced a rescheduled itinerary that omits the Emerald City entirely. Not only is Green Day launching the tour elsewhere, they're not even playing here - at least not on the newest batch of dates that begin March 28 in Chicago and end April 12 in Quebec City. If you still have tickets for the late November show at the Paramount Theatre, go to the box office for a refund.

ASS, JUDY GARLAND, AND ...
We loves us some Margaret Cho, especially her stand-up performances. Speaking of, in case you haven't heard, the comedienne and TV/film actress is bringing her new production, 'Mother,' to nearby Tulalip Resort Casino on February 15. It's rumored to be her edgiest show yet, boldly peering into the lives of maternal figures and strong women in Queer culture. It will also touch on sexuality, politics, social culture, and celebrities (such as that spawn growing in Kim Kardashian's belly). Cho, who's interviewed with SGN twice before, goes one-on-one with me in our February 8 issue. For tickets to her live appearance, visit www.tulalipcasino.com. Cho picked up another Grammy nomination for Cho Dependent (Live in Concert) and currently stars in the Lifetime TV series Drop Dead Diva.

SHUT UP AND SING
American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino angered Gay fans this week when she posted a rant on Instagram, huffing and puffing about same-sex marriage and marijuana, both of which were legalized by Washington state voters in November. She then retracted her statement, saying her words were taken out of context and that she supports the Gay community, whose members are among her biggest fans. Her manager also called for a ceasefire, saying Barrino has long been an LGBT ally and has even performed at several Gay community events. My advice? Girl, just put out some new music.

GET JAZZED IN STUMPTOWN
Grammy nominee Esperanza Spalding leads an impressive field of performers for the 2013 Portland Jazz Festival, slated for February 15-24 at multiple venues. Patricia Barber, Jack DeJohnette, Kenny Garrett, the Afro-Cuban All Stars, and Geri Allen are also slated to perform. Ticket information is available at http://pdxjazz.com.

THE KING IS COMING
The only other new show to announce this week is blues legend B.B. King at Snoqualmie Casino Ballroom on March 3. Ticket information is available at http://snocasino.com.
