Envelope, please! - The 2012 Gypsy Rose Lee Award winners revealed

by Miryam Gordon - SGN A&E Writer

Seattle Theater Writers this week presented the winners' slate of the second annual Gypsy Rose Lee Awards, devoted to recognizing excellence across the economic spectrum of professional Seattle theater. STW hopes that the awards will motivate Seattle-area theater lovers to explore theaters they may never have attended and thus broaden their artistic horizons.

In addition to the 32 categories below, STW also chose to give a Special Award of Recognition to Kathy Hsieh for Excellence in Playwriting, for her 10-plus years and roughly 40 hours of theatrical production time, either alone or with partners, on the long-running serial Sex in Seattle, which concluded in 2012 with Episode 20.

Hsieh's consistent vision was amusing, and it encapsulated divergent responses to the world from her four Asian-American female characters as they all struggled with love and other relationships. We honor her achievement, her contribution to her company (SiS Productions), and to our artistic community.
