Have a golden time at Purr's Oscar party |
by Albert Rodriguez -
SGN A&E Writer
We know for sure that Ben Affleck won't be walking away with the Best Director statue, though he's claimed every equivalent prize leading up to the Oscars. But this year's Academy Awards do include a couple of nail-biters - including, once again, the Best Actress race, where momentum has swung in recent weeks to Jennifer Lawrence over the more critically acclaimed Jessica Chastain. The other suspense-filled category is Best Supporting Actor, which has five veterans - all previous Oscar champs - battling for another trip to the podium.
The 85th installment of the film industry's top honors, beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, February 24, will feature musical performances by Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Adele, and Norah Jones. Taking on emcee duties this year is Seth MacFarlane, who (if we're fortunate) could give the three-hour telecast a more risqué comedic boost than usual.
You can catch all the action, from the red-carpet arrivals to the naming of the year's best picture, at Purr Cocktail Lounge (1518 11th Ave.). Seattle Gay News and Purr have teamed up once again to present 'A Night at the Oscars,' a free-of-charge viewing party with 15 flat-screen TVs positioned throughout the lounge/restaurant. Drink and food specials will be offered and prizes will be awarded for the most accurate predictions. (Arrive early to fill out a ballot!)
Look for the Purr ad in this issue for more info. Everyone 21 and over is welcome, regardless of whom you're cheering for - or against.
