Loving Everywhere, a social movement created by the author of The Gay Agenda 2013, the comprehensive guidebook for LGBT equality, kicked off this week online (www.lovingeverywhere.com).
'In the 1967 Loving v. Virginia case, the Supreme Court made interracial marriages valid in all 50 states and territories,' Loving Equality states on its website. 'In June, the Supreme Court will rule on LGBT equality for the first time in a decade. What's at stake now, like in the 1967 Loving case, is the freedom to marry the person you love and the recognition of same-gender marriages everywhere.'
Nine states and the District of Columbia already allow same-gender marriages, but neither the federal government nor the majority of states currently recognize those marriages.
'Imagine what happens when traveling or relocating to another state and suddenly you are no longer considered married,' says Loving Everywhere.
LETTER-WRITING CAMPAIGN
So what can you do? Send a picture of you as a couple to each of the nine Supreme Court justices! The Court's address is: One First Street N.E., Washington, DC 20543.
Their names are Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Anthony Kennedy, Justice Elena Kagan, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Justice Stephen Breyer, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Justice Samuel Alito, Justice Clarence Thomas, and Justice Antonin Scalia.
Loving Everywhere advises that you include a thoughtful letter expressing your feeling that all marriages should be valid and recognized by all states, all territories, and the federal government.
Why a letter and not an electronic copy? 'The personal touch of a picture and a thoughtful letter has a unique impact,' says Loving Everywhere.
