The Alternative Wedding Show will help you go way beyond the ordinary

by Joshua Ryan - Special to the SGN

THE ALTERNATIVE WEDDING SHOW
ZAHN EVENT CENTER, EVERETT
March 16

The Alternative Wedding Show takes place this Saturday, March 16, at The Zahn Event Center at The Manor, located at 13032 Admiralty Way in Everett. The show was created this year in response to the demand from brides and grooms who wanted unique, non-traditional weddings in a positive, supportive atmosphere. With the passage of Referendum 74, LGBTQ couples upped the ante for weddings that were unique and really individual. The team at The Manor found couples were seeking great venues and open-minded caterers, photographers, officiates, and venues where people of all walks could wed and be comfortable.

According to Laura Sprinkles of Zahn Event Center at the Manor, 'People are not alternative, but wedding ceremonies can be. With the passage of Gay marriage in our state, we wanted to make sure that the Gay and Lesbian communities, along with nudist, swinger, Goth/fetish, and other non-traditional brides and grooms (or for that matter, brides and brides or grooms and grooms) have an opportunity to create their perfect wedding - no matter how avant-garde or unusual they could imagine. The Alternative Wedding Show is for those people,' Sprinkles said, her warm eyes twinkling in the spring sunlight.

MAKING EVERYONE WELCOME
Robert Strunks, general manager of Zahn Event Center at the Manor, also emphasized that the focus of the event is on inclusivity. 'We are really excited at the response to the show,' the silver-haired executive said recently. 'So much of the ethos of the Pacific Northwest is to find your own authentic way of celebrating special events in life, but the question is where? How do you find 'like-minded' places, how do you mitigate any embarrassment or rejection? If you find a great place, what about great vendors and all the support you need for a superb, fun, unique event?' Strunks added.

'We really believe that everyone should have a great place to celebrate and that no one should ever be embarrassed about asking, and we've found a really vibrant niche for The Manor to fill,' he concluded.

The Alternative Wedding Show quickly sold out of vendor space, and more than 40 vendors will be present to consult brides and grooms-to-be on everything from décor and DJs to food and floral. The show will open at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. The event will include hand-passed hors d'oeuvres, and fashion models wearing cutting-edge wedding gowns, as well as traditional wedding attire throughout the day. There is ample free parking on the grounds. Additionally, shuttles will run from Capitol Hill for those who would prefer not to drive to Everett. Shuttles will pick up and drop off at Purr Cocktail Lounge, 1518 11th Avenue, Seattle.
