Last call for Cabaret Month! - Outstanding four-week run of shows at Egan's concludes SundayBeatScience 2 - Alchemy Tap Project takes an old dance form to new heights

JUDY ANN MOULTON
ARNALDO! DRAG CHANTEUSE
HELENE SMART
EGAN'S BALLARD JAM HOUSE
March 30

The 'March Is Cabaret Month' series in the Emerald City ends its sixth year with three top performers (all raved about in SGN by this scribe in previous issues) on Sunday, March 30, with one of the top cabaret acts in the country: the incomparable Arnaldo! Drag Chanteuse, who shares the second set with the fabulous Judy Ann Moulton.

For the first half, Judy Ann pays tribute to the music of the '60s in From Crayons to Perfume, while in the second half, Arnaldo! sings selections from the great American songbook.

Every cabaret nut in Seattle (you know who you are) will be at Egan's on March 30! As they say, be there or be square. (SGN's various editors are still uncertain just who 'they' are, but what the heck - the adage is valid now and forever. Thus spake Zarathustra, or someone German.)

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Moulton is one of this self-proclaimed cabaret nut's favorites. He plans to marry her as soon as he divorces his wife of 47 years, dumps his Stanford Ph.D. lover of 32 years, breaks up with his boy-toy, drops his founding membership in Northwest Bears, etc., etc. Moulton truly inspires that kind of loyalty.

Seattle's premier 'Drag Chanteuse' is a New York Cabaret Bistro Award winner, and SF Bay Times' 'Jazz & Cocktails' column named him a Top 10 cabaret act in 2010. His motto, 'Opening hearts and minds through music, one cabaret at a time,' should be an LGBT anthem. For information on Arnaldo! Drag Chanteuse, visit www.dragchanteuse.com.

Reservations are highly recommended at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/332752. Three previous shows were total sellouts. Plan ahead and make reservations, as Egan's - the greatest venue in the Northwest for jazz and cabaret - seats only 50, tops. You'll never find a nicer staff or better food. (Hint: The red beans and rice is tops - add cornbread and a Caesar salad and you'll have an incredible dinner for two. Yes, the servings are large enough to split and still have leftovers. What a deal.)

SMART SET
The early (7 p.m.) show headlines the wonderfully talented Helene Smart. She's a graduate of the Yale Cabaret Conference, as is most of the Emerald City's Kabaret Krowd. This writer is flying back from March Is Cabaret Month in New York City for an early Easter dinner with his real and extended family, and then a rushed rush to Egan's. (A highlight of this scribe's six weeks in New York was running into a mature, well-dressed, ever-so-stylish, sophisticated gentleman who taught Arnaldo! at the Yale Cabaret Conference. Talk about a small world!)

Incidentally, most of the March Is Cabaret Month in Seattle performers were part of last fall's 25 Bucks for 25 Divas charity cabaret series at Egan's. Co-sponsored by SGN and produced and hosted by this very writer, the benefit hoped to raise $1,250 for the American Cancer Society. It failed to do that. It raised more than $2,000 with just 50 seats. Wow!

SGN is so happy that the next show in the series will raise funds for all Northwest-area AIDS related charities. Watch this space for details.

At the Seattle March Is Cabaret Month, all the Kabaret Kids plan to chip in and, hopefully, raise $100 for a joint membership in the Mabel Mercer Foundation Cabaret Conference next October in New York. A truly demented, very poor but incredibly generous donor promises to match all donations up to a total of $50 to ensure that the Seattle Cabaret Gang gets its name on the Cabaret Conference. Bring an extra dollar. As before, Harry and Trina will happily take donations - and, as usual, 'Hey, Sailor, buy me a drink and this writer promises to tell all in an upcoming SGN.'

Until then, as Sally sang, 'What good is sitting alone in your room? Come hear the music play. Life is a cabaret, old chum, come to the cabaret.' Over and out.
