Mickey Avalon interview coming next week

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

You'd be hard-pressed to find a more honest, raw story from anyone else in the music business: Mickey Avalon, who fuses elements of rap and hard rock for an intriguing and intoxicating sound, was raised in a drug-addicted family in Southern California and turned to prositution at an early age to support his own habit. His subsequent marriage, child, divorce, failed sobriety attempts, and poverty would have done in many people. But not this guy. Avalon miraculously launched a music career while still in recovery and began selling out Hollywood clubs, eventually getting signed to a major record label. His self-titled album earned him a quick following and tour dates with some of the biggies, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg, and Stephen Marley.

Avalon's songs have been featured on TV and film projects from the HBO comedy Hung to the motion picture Bad Teacher. His sophomore album, Loaded, is just as fun and dizzying as his first, and he's supporting it with a nationwide tour that includes a performance at The Showbox Market on July 12. For ticket information, visit www.showboxonline.com. Avalon goes one-on-one with SGN in next week's edition, so grab a copy and discover more about this wild, entertaining, and very open artist.
