KUDOS TO SHAUN

Editor's note: The following was addressed to SGN Associate Editor Shaun Knittel regarding his commentary, 'We Are a Nonviolent Movement,' published in last week's edition.

I have been reading and marveling at your articles in the SGN for many years. Today, I read your article condemning any and all violence in our community.

Bravo.

I am now retired but used to manage corporate communications at a very large company. I put myself through college as a newspaper reporter. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to hire and work with a number of good writers. I think of you as being not just a good writer but a great one.

You have a wonderful strength of conviction in your words - never more so than in your piece today. You also have a great instinct for storytelling. I find your articles compelling and am in awe of the way you structure and arrange your facts and paragraphs.

I am also a former national president of Dignity/USA and have read with interest many of your articles on the intersection of religion and politics in our struggle for equality.

I, like many people, never fail to complain when people, companies, and institutions get things wrong. So, I didn't want to miss this opportunity to give you thanks and praise for the many gifts and talents you bring to our community. We're lucky to have you.
