Albuquerque hosts mass wedding

Same-sex couples in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, held a mass Gay wedding attended by more than 200 witnesses August 27, marking what Lesbian political commentator Rachel Maddow called a 'day of celebration' for more than 80 couples.

County Clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver received a court order late Monday afternoon permitting her to issue licenses to same-sex couples. At least 17 couples were in line Tuesday morning when the clerk's office opened at 8 a.m.

ProgressNow New Mexico hosted a mass wedding on Albuquerque's Civic Plaza at noon. Presiding over the nuptials were Bernalillo Metropolitan Judge Jason Greenlee and 12 other officiants from various religious denominations supporting the freedom to marry. Photos of the event can be seen online at the ProgressNow New Mexico website, www.progressnownm.org. -
