Entre Hermanos gala un gran éxito

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

Entre Hermanos held their annual gala event, which this year coincided with the traditional holiday Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), November 2 at the Northwest African American Museum.

Roxana Pardo Garcia served as mistress of ceremonies and Marcos Martinez, Entre Hermanos' executive director, kicked off the event by welcoming the audience, who enjoyed a Mexican buffet-style dinner provided by Maya's Mexican Restaurant.

The event featured performances by Miss Gay Seattle 2013 Isabella De La Rosa, Rey Noyola, Jacque Larrainzar, Jack Mozie, Jesus Orea, and Joel Aguirre ('La Gorda'). Aleksa Manila was a guest speaker and Alejandra Solis gave a client testimonial.

This year's Community Leadership Award recipient is Carlos Padilla. Padilla works with the Washington DREAM Act Coalition and served as a summer fellow with the Washington Bus. He regularly speaks out in support of comprehensive immigration reform. Three years ago, Padilla came out not only as undocumented but also Queer, intersecting both of his identities in his activism. Over the summer, Padilla worked with the National Education Association and United We DREAM for immigration reform in Washington, D.C. Padilla hopes one day to work on campaign directing and advocacy in Olympia and D.C., moving social justice agendas forward.

The event provided supporters with the chance to hear about the organization's recent work and an opportunity to further support the work Entre Hermanos does in the Latino LGBT community.

The family-friendly entertainment included traditional Mexican music.

Entre Hermanos promotes the health and wellbeing of the Latino LGBTQ community through education, outreach, advocacy, and referrals. For more information, visit www.entrehermanos.org.
