Sharon Jones, Il Divo hit Seattle in spring

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

Get your calendar and your credit card out, because some awesome live shows are coming to the Seattle area in early 2014.

Funky mama Sharon Jones and her stylish crew, the Dap-Kings, have announced back-to-back concerts at The Showbox Market on April 2 and 3. The Georgia outfit will soon release their fifth studio album, Give the People What They Want, which was originally scheduled to hit record stores in 2013 but was delayed because of Jones' cancer diagnois. Thankfully, she's recovered and is back in business. Go to www.showboxpresents.com for ticket information.

Multi-national operatic quartet Il Divo, who toured last year with Barbra Streisand, are coming to Benaroya Hall on April 9. The musical four-piece just released their newest effort, A Musical Affair, and will likely pluck material from it for their forthcoming show. For tickets, visit www.seattlesymphony.org/benaroya.

R&B legend Smokey Robinson returns to the Northwest for a performance at Emerald Queen Casino on January 18. Expect the legendary, smooth-as-silk vocalist to include 'The Tracks of My Tears,' 'Cruisin',' 'Being With You,' and plenty of stuff from his days with The Miracles on his set list. For concert information, log onto www.emeraldqueen.com.

Pop-rock act Toad the Wet Sprocket is back together, again. The SoCal band broke up in the late '90s, then reunited in 2006, and then pursued solo interests, only to re-group and start touring again. Even better for fans is the release of their first album in 16 years, 2013's New Constellation. Toad the Wet Sprocket rose to fame with the smash singles 'All I Want' and 'Something's Always Wrong,' one of the '00s decade's best-written songs. You'll hear old and fresh material when they play The Showbox Market on February 8. Check out www.showboxpresents.com for ticket details.

Last but not least, master ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro is making an appearance at the Paramount Theatre on April 26. The Hawaii-based performer, who has shared the stage with the likes of Bette Midler and Jack Johnson, will introduce Seattle area fans to music from his latest offering, Grand Ukulele. This guy is amazing - you gotta see him live! For further details and tickets, visit www.stgpresents.org.
